We study the hitting probabilities of the solution to a system of d stochastic heat equations with additive noise subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that for any bounded Borel set with positive (d-6)\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{ ...

The new generation of Ultra-High-By-Pass-Ratio (UHBR) turbofan engine while considerably reducing fuel consumption, threatens higher noise levels at low frequencies because of its larger diameter, lower number of blades and rotational speed. This is accomp ...

Externally pressurized gas journal bearings (EPGJB) are widely adopted to support high speed rotors. This paper presents novel experimental benchmark test data which enables EPGJB model validation. Axial and circumferential pressure profile measurements ar ...

Printed circuits in bounded media encompass a wide range of practical structures such as discontinuities in waveguides, planar circuits embedded in shielded multilayered media or even two-dimensional printed periodic structures. The Electromagnetic (EM) mo ...

Anewanalytical modeling approach for piezoelectric bending elements is described. The approach is based on the beam theory under quasi-static equilibrium condition. It uses the theory of superposition of piezoelectric action in the bender and external mome ...

Investigation of the rotor-stator interactions of a reduced-scale model 0.19 ν= pump-turbine in generating mode is presented for the maximum discharge operating condition. This operating point is chosen in order to have the most important rotor-stator inte ...

Ultrasonic motors have received much attention these last years, in particular with regard to their modeling and their design principle. Their operating principle is based on piezoelectric ceramics that convert electrical energy into mechanical energy in t ...

The two objectives of natural ventilation in buildings are the improvement of indoor air quality and thermal comfort. The methodology proposed hereafter provides an assessment of the natural ventilation potential for indoor air quality, while taking into c ...

In this thesis we deal with three different but connected questions. Firstly (cf. Chapter 2) we make a systematic study of the generalized notions of convexity for sets. We study the notions of polyconvex, quasiconvex and rank one convex set. We remark tha ...

The design and minaturization of microwave circuits involves the analysis and optimization of a large varity of structures, which, in general, are based on arbritrary objects embedded in also arbritary media. The most common situation is found when optimiz ...

The dissipation of energy of flood discharges from water releasing structures of dams is often done by plunging jets diffusing in water and impacting on the riverbed downstream. The construction of expensive concrete structures for energy dissipation can b ...

A simulation of a diurnal cycle of atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) flow over a homogeneous terrain is performed using large-eddy simulation (LES) with the Lagrangian scale-dependent dynamic subgrid-scale model. The surface boundary condition is derived fr ...

The present study deals with the shedding process of the Kármán vortices at the trailing edge of a 2D hydrofoil at high Reynolds numbers. Investigations are performed in order to evaluate the ability of an unsteady numerical simulation to accurately reprod ...

We define "random trip", a generic mobility model for random, independent node motions, which contains as special cases: the random waypoint on convex or nonconvex domains, random walk on torus, billiards, city section, space graph, intercity and other mod ...

The subject of the work presented here is the study of the acoustical ray method, which aims at describing a pressure field by an analogy with light rays. The concept of a wave is therefore replaced by the concept of "acoustical rays", whose paths through ...

Our goal is to study the existence of weak solution for the stationary system of equations describing the solidification process of a binary alloy confined in a bounded regular domain in R-3 and having mixed boundary conditions. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All ...

The longitudinal piezoelectric coefficient d(33) measured by the quasistatic (Berlincourt-type) method is strongly dependent on the sample aspect ratio (thickness/lateral dimension) and the type of contacts used to collect the charge and apply the pressure ...

This work is concerned with a numerical simulation of the thermal behaviour of an electrolysis cell for the production of the aluminium. Aluminium is produced by an electrolytic reduction of alumina dissolved in a bath of molten cryolite. In this reduction ...

The performance of Monin-Obukhov similarity (MOS) theory has been investigated for four types of events of transient physical processes in the stable nocturnal boundary layer during the Cooperative Atmosphere-Surface Exchange Study-99 (CASES-99). These fou ...

The study of turbulent flows has always been a challenge for scientists. Turbulent flows are common in nature and have an important role in several geophysical processes related to a variety of phenomena such as river morphology, landscape modeling, atmosp ...
