Diamonds possess significant hardness and durability; however, any attempt to deform them typically leads to brittle fracture. In this study, we comprehensively characterize nanoscale diamond at elevated temperatures, using a combination of experimental an ...

Thermal motion of a room-temperature mechanical resonator typically dominates the quantum backaction of its position measurement. This is a longstanding barrier for exploring cavity optomechanics at room temperature. In order to enter the quantum regime of ...

In this Letter, we report and investigate the temperature dependency of various radio frequency (RF) parameters for a fabricated reconfigurable bandstop filter with vanadium dioxide (VO2) switches measured up to 55 GHz. Here, the insulator-to-metal (ITM) a ...

A new and versatile fabrication process of insulated gold tip probes for atomic force microscopy (AFM) is presented by Wu et al. (In-plane fabricated insulated gold-tip probe for electrochemical and molecular experiments, in: 2013 IEEE 26th International C ...

We report nonlinear behavior in the motion of driven nanowire cantilevers. The nonlinearity can be described by the Duffing equation and is used to demonstrate mechanical mixing of two distinct excitation frequencies. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the n ...

The development of nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) is likely to open up a broad spectrum of applications in science and technology. In this study, we demonstrate a novel double-transduction principle for silicon nanowire resonators which exploits the ...

In this contribution we present a scanning probe with a gold-tip completely encapsulated with insulator all the way to the apex. The probe fabrication is unique owing to an in-plane arrangement in which the width of the cantilever is defined by deep reacti ...

This paper reports on low-temperature and hermetic thin-film indium bonding for wafer-level encapsulation and packaging of delicate and temperature sensitive devices. This indium-bonding technology enables bonding of surface materials commonly used in MEMS ...

Resonators for time and frequency reference applications are essential elements found in most electronic devices surrounding us. The continuous minimization and ubiquitous distribution of such electronic devices and circuits demands for resonators of small ...

Today's consumer electronics based on a large variety of time-keeping and frequency reference applications is based on quartz-crystal oscillators, because of their excellent performances in terms of quality factor, thermal and frequency stability. However, ...

This thesis aims to find, for the first time, a direct relation between the size and morphology of small metallic nanostructures (gold in this case) supported on a metal-oxide surface to their catalytic activity. In this perspective, three main topics have ...

This paper reports on the top-down fabrication and electrical performance of silicon nanowire (SiNW) gate-all-around (GAA) n-type and p-type MOSFET devices integrated on bulk silicon using a local-silicon-on-insulator (SOI) process. The proposed local-SOI ...

Self-assembled monolayer (SAM) films have attracted immense attention for both fundamental and applied research. A SAM is composed of a large number of molecules with a head group that chemisorbs onto a substrate, a tail group that interacts with the outer ...

Scanning probe microscopy has become, nowadays, a branch of microscopy widely used to image surfaces of different specimens. Among the various applications, the magnetic imaging is one of the most exciting scanning probe microscopy techniques. It allows th ...

An innovative release method of polymer cantilevers with embedded integrated metal electrodes is presented. The fabrication is based on the lithographic patterning of the electrode layout on a wafer surface, covered by two layers of SU-8 polymer: a 10-um-t ...
