Due to its high parallelism, belief propagation (BP)decoding is amenable to high-throughput applications and thusrepresents a promising solution for the ultra-high peak datarate required by future communication systems. To bridge theperformance gap compare ...

2.5D Systems-on-Package (SoPs) are composed by several chiplets placed on an interposer. They are becoming increasingly popular as they enable easy integration of electronic components in the same package and high fabrication yields. Nevertheless, they int ...

The landscape of computing is changing, thanks to the advent of modern networking equipment that allows machines to exchange information in as little as one microsecond. Such advancement has enabled microsecond-scale distributed computing, where entire dis ...

Eventual consistency is a consistency model that favors liveness over safety. It is often used in large-scale distributed systems where models ensuring a stronger safety incur performance that are too low to be deemed practical. Eventual consistency tends ...

Timely insights lead to business growth and scientific breakthroughs but require analytical engines that cope with the ever-increasing data processing needs. Analytical engines relied on rapid CPU improvements, yet the end of Dennard scaling stopped the fr ...

Flow reshaping is used in time-sensitive networks (as in the context of IEEE TSN and IETF Detnet) in order to reduce burstiness inside the network and to support the computation of guaranteed latency bounds. This is performed using per-flow regulators (suc ...

Modern large-scale data platforms manage colossal amount of data, generated by the ever-increasing number of concurrent users. Geo-replicated and sharded key-value data stores play a central role when building such platforms. As the strongest consistency m ...

Geo-replicated data platforms are at the backbone of several large-scale online services. Transactional Causal Consistency (TCC) is an attractive consistency level for building such platforms. TCC avoids many anomalies of eventual consistency, eschews the ...

As an increase of intelligent and self-powered devices is forecasted for our future everyday life, the implementation of energy-autonomous devices that can wirelessly communicate data from sensors is crucial. Even though techniques such as voltage scaling ...

Simulations of the electrical activity of networks of morphologically-detailed neuron models allow for a better understanding of the brain. Short time to solution is critical in order to study long biological processes such as synaptic plasticity and learn ...

Database systems access memory either sequentially or randomly. Contrary to sequential access and despite the extensive efforts of computer architects, compiler writers, and system builders, random access to data larger than the processor cache has been s ...

The booming popularity of online services is rapidly raising the demands for modern datacenters. In order to cope with data deluge, growing user bases, and tight quality of service constraints, service providers deploy massive datacenters with tens to hund ...

Causal consistency is an attractive consistency model for geo-replicated data stores. It is provably the strongest model that tolerates network partitions. It avoids the long latencies associated with strong consistency, and, especially when using read-onl ...

Digital silicon photo-multipliers (SiPMs) have emerged in the recent past as a viable low cost alternative to photomultiplier tubes in positron emission tomography systems, providing multiple timestamps, energy and scintillation coordinates at high spatial ...

Clocking power, including both clock distribution and registers, has long been one of the primary factors in the total power consumption of many digital systems. One straightforward approach to reduce this power consumption is to apply dual-edge-triggered ...

In this paper we present a new approach to implementing causal consistency in geo-replicated data stores, which we call Optimistic Causal Consistency (OCC). The optimism in our approach lies in that updates from a remote data center are immediately made vi ...

Twentieth century has been the golden age of semiconductor industry by achieving a high level of growth as a courtesy of developments in fabrication techniques and downscaling of the technology. Since the downscaling in current lithography technology is re ...

Causal consistency is one of the most adopted consistency criteria for distributed implementations of data structures. It ensures that operations are executed at all sites according to their causal precedence. We address the issue of verifying automaticall ...
