Modern power distribution systems are experiencing a large-scale integration of Converter-Interfaced Distributed Energy Resources (CIDERs). Their presence complicates the analysis and mitigation of harmonics, whose creation and propagation may be amplified ...

In this letter, we introduce an optimal transport framework for inferring power distributions over both spatial location and temporal frequency. Recently, it has been shown that optimal transport is a powerful tool for estimating spatial spectra that chang ...

Navigation of drones is predominantly based on sensor fusion algorithms. Most of these algorithms make use of some form of Bayesian filtering with a majority employing an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), wherein inertial measurements are fused with a Global N ...

Situational awareness strategies are essential for the reliable and secure operation of the electric power grid which represents critical infrastructure in modern society. With the rise of converter-interfaced renewable generation and the consequent shift ...

This paper proposes a novel method to improve georeferencing of airborne laser scanning by improved trajectory estimation using Vehicle Dynamic Model. In Vehicle Dynamic Model (VDM), the relationship between the dynamics of the platform and control inputs ...

Background:Short-term forecasts of infectious disease burden can contribute to situational awareness and aid capacity planning. Based on best practice in other fields and recent insights in infectious disease epidemiology, one can maximise the predictive p ...

The main output from an Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance is a frequency shift. This note describes how to separate the mass- and viscous load contributions to this shift by a calibration procedure. The mass calibration is made by electroplating ...

Adaptive optics (AO) systems are used in ground- based telescopes to improve image resolutions, especially for long-exposure photography, by compensating for the effects of atmospheric turbulence and internal vibrations. Most current AO systems are based o ...

This paper proposes an algorithm to upper-bound maximal quantile statistics of a state function over the course of a Stochastic Differential Equation (SDE) system execution. This chance-peak problem is posed as a nonconvex program aiming to maximize the Va ...

Geomembrane systems have been used in dams and reservoirs as rehabilitation technology since several decades and are now used worldwide. They act as impervious layer to prevent and mitigate water leakage and damage to structures. They meet the needs of man ...

The success of drone missions is incumbent on an accurate determination of the drone pose and velocity, which are collectively estimated by fusing iner- tial measurement unit and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) mea- surements. However, during a G ...

The application of unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA)-based fault diagnosis methods has shown significant efficacy in industrial settings, facilitating the transfer of operational experience and fault signatures between different operating conditions, di ...

Safety-critical navigation applications require that estimation errors be reliably quantified and bounded. Over the last decade, significant effort has been put to guarantee a bounded position estimation by using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) ...

We present a novel technique of neutron noise detection and experimental data interpretation developed during the EU H2020 project CORTEX aiming to improve the capabilities for identification and localization of neutron noise sources. The experimental data ...

The Vehicle Dynamic Model (VDM) based navigation of fixed-wing drones determines the airborne trajectory in conjunction with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors. Without Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals, this method estimates navigati ...

Eccentricity has emerged as a potentially useful tool for helping to identify the origin of black hole mergers. However, eccentric templates can be computationally very expensive owing to the large number of harmonics, making statistical analyses to distin ...

Partial discharge (PD) occurrence in power transformers can lead to irreparable damage to the power network. In this paper, the inverse filter (IF) method to localize PDs in power transformers is proposed. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the ...

A correct representation of the lightning current is crucial when the electromagnetic field radiated to a point of interest has to be computed. Based on the engineering models of Transmission Line type, such representation involves the knowledge of the ret ...

Systematic extraction of locally valid dynamic models from experiments is necessary for controller design and the validation of high fidelity models. This paper describes the extraction of a dynamic model in the form of a transfer function, giving the dyna ...

The evaluation of the signal frequency and Rate of Change of Frequency (RoCoF) from voltage or current waveforms is used for critical grid control, monitoring and protection applications. However, when step changes in the amplitude or phase of the signal o ...
