Imaging at depth in opaque materials has long been a challenge. Recently, wavefront shaping has enabled notable advance for deep imaging. Nevertheless, most noninvasive wavefront-shaping methods require cameras, lack the sensitivity for deep imaging under ...

We introduce an optimization framework for ray and wave optical tomographic volumetric additive manufacturing (TVAM). In TVAM, tomographic patterns are projected with a light modulator onto a photocurable resin from different angular directions. Once an en ...

In an era where portable electronic devices are indispensable for a wide range of activities, the need for displays that provide both long-lasting battery life and excellent visibility in different lighting conditions is increasingly important. Emissive di ...

Keeping up with our constantly connected lifestyle of instant messages and video streaming has its repercussions. Data centers have been gobbling up resources becoming a significant share of the energy used worldwide. To keep up with demand and curb the en ...

The present invention relates to a method for operating a resonant power converter (1) having a primary stage (2) and a secondary stage (3) at least one of which is actively operated and includes a half-bridge or full-bridge inverter (21) having a pull-up ...

The revolution of information-technology owes to silicon-based complementary-metal-oxide (CMOS) technology. However, CMOS technology approaches its physical limitation hardening the further progress of memory devices as well as computing paradigm requiring ...

Modern envelope glazing relies on nanoscale coatings to meet a range of specific needs. Low emissivity coatings can improve the thermal performance of glazing thanks to a thin metallic film. However, the conductive nature of this layer leads to an attenuat ...

Resistive Random Access Memories (ReRAMs) have been researched intensively in the last past decades as a promising alternatives technology for the next-generation non-volatile memory (NVM) devices. ReRAMâ s excellent performance properties such as high sw ...

In this article, we inspected the bipolar resistive switching behavior of W-based ReRAMs, using HfO2 as switching layer. We have shown that the switching properties can be significantly enhanced by incorporating an Al2O3 layer as a barrier layer. It stabil ...

We propose an all-optical switch based on an asymmetric directional coupler structure with epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) layer. The nonlinear optical properties the of ENZ layer are analyzed by hot-electron dynamics process, and the all-optical operating perform ...

The rapid progress in high capacity communication systems is reaching extremely high data rates of 100 Gb s−1, which demands electronic switches with cut-off frequencies well above 1 THz. The excellent electron transport properties of III-V heterojunctions ...

The ever-increasing requirements for reliability and quality of supply suggest to enable the self-healing features of modern distribution networks. Within the context of Active Distribution Networks (ADNs), new, fast and efficient restoration strategies ca ...

The authors demonstrate programmable integrated microwave photonic filters with low noise figure and ultrahigh dynamic range, using combination of modulation transformer and double injection ring resonator in a single photonic chip. Microwave photonics has ...

The pursuit of high-speed and on-chip optical communication systems has promoted extensive exploration of all-optical control of light-matter interactions via nonlinear optical processes. Here, we have numerically investigated the ultrafast dynamic switchi ...

Vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) are widely used for medium voltage applications when low maintenance, long operating life, and large number of allowable switching cycles are required. The accurate estimation of the transient recovery voltages (TRVs) associa ...

Biochemistry, ecology, and neuroscience are examples of prominent fields aiming at describing interacting systems that exhibit nontrivial couplings to complex, ever-changing environments. We have recently shown that linear interactions and a switching envi ...

Photonic integrated systems can be harnessed for fast and efficient optical telecommunication and metrology technologies. Here the authors develop a dual-soliton microcomb technique for massively parallel coherent laser ranging that requires only a single ...

We consider the problem of finding the optimal time to switch between two measurable cash-flow streams. A complete characterization of the set of solutions is obtained in terms of adjoint variables which measure the available gain from deviations. An itera ...

The concerns for climate change and the transition to renewables is increasing the relevance of superconducting applications: High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) cables for efficient power transmission, superconducting magnets for nuclear fusion, superco ...

During the design phase of a modular multilevel converter (MMC), an accurate loss evaluation of the submodule (SM) plays an important role. In this paper, a method based on the analytical description of the MMC key waveforms that allows to directly obtain ...
