The first chapter of this thesis describe the development of a general synthesis of ynimines, an under-exploited motif in organic chemistry. In the presence of an inexpensive copper catalyst and 2,2'-biquinoline, reaction of easily accessible O-acyloximes ...

Indole is one of the most important heterocycles widely present in bioactive natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and materials. Being easily accessible, the 2-nitrostyrenes are attractive starting materials for the indole synthesis and the Cad ...

The development of a titanium(III)-mediated cascade electrocyclisation/rearrangement for the enantioselective total synthesis of indole alkaloids (+)-condyfoline and (-)-tubifoline serve as the basis of the first chapter of this thesis. An introduction wil ...

Radioactive iodine-129 (I-129) and technetium-99 (Tc-9(9)) pose a risk to groundwater due to their long half-lives, toxicity, and high environmental mobility. Based on literature reviewed in Moore et al. (2019) and Pearce et aL (2019), natural and engineer ...

Organic chemistry is essential for the development of a modern society and technical progress requires the continuous development of synthetic methodologies Novel, efficient, selective and flexible protocols are employed to access complex frameworks from s ...

Marine emissions of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) to the atmosphere play a fundamental role in the global sulfur (5) cycle and have important consequences for the Earth's radiative balance. In the ocean, DMS is mainly produced by marine algae and bacteria via cle ...

Among the fundamental chemical transformations in organic synthesis, rearrangement has been recognized as powerful and reliable reactions for the construction of carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bonds. Benefiting from the advance of the novel catalytic s ...

The total synthesis of pentacyclic monoterpene indole alkaloids is the focus of this thesis. Total syntheses of (±)-alstilobanine C, (±)-undulifoline and (±)-alstilobanine B, three natural products from the Ulean family of alkaloids, were accomplished. The ...

This study experimentally analyzes the performance and degradation issues of an anode supported (AS) Ni-YSZ solid oxide fuel cell exposed to thiophene (C4H4S). The impact of this organic sulfur compound on the performance of SOFC Ni-YSZ anodes is reported ...

The overarching objective of this thesis is extending and adapting the set of computational tools available for describing molecular precursors of organic semiconductors. The research presented within develops adhering to three principle goals: (1) provide ...

Bromide (Br-) levels in fresh waters range from a few ¿gL-1 to several mgL-1. In seawater its concentration is about 67 mgL-1. The goal of this thesis is to assess the fate of bromide during oxidative water treatment and to explore its influence on these t ...

Enantioselective total syntheses of title natural products from a common cyclohexenone derivative (S)-18 were reported. Ozonolysis of (S)-18 afforded a stable diketo ester (R)-17 that was subsequently converted to two skeletally different natural products, ...

The detailed description of gas streams in biomass gasification plants is necessary for the correct design and operation of these units. Sulfur containing compounds are usually present in biomass gasification gas, since sulfur is typically found in the fee ...

My PhD work started with the development of a racemic access to trigonoliimine B, an hexacyclic alkaloid isolated in 2010. After having explored different strategies, we reported a 7-step synthesis of this natural product. This synthesis features a challen ...

This paper describes chitin liquefaction in ethylene glycol (EG) under the catalysis of sulfuric acid for the first time. Up to 75% of chitin was liquefied at 165 degrees C within 90 min by using 8 wt % of acid (refer to the mass of EG). The major products ...

The increasing progress in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology requires more versatile synthetic strategies for the generation of libraries of active compounds and theirs analogues. A wide range of biologically active natural and synthetic compounds c ...

The rhodanese protein domain is common throughout all kingdoms of life and is characterized by an active site cysteine residue that is able to bind sulfane sulfur and catalyse sulfur transfer. No unique function has been attributed to rhodanese-domain-cont ...

Cyclic stereotriads and stereotetrads of the beta-hydroxy-delta-lactone type, e.g. prelactones B and E, common in polyketides and polypropionates, are prepared via SO2-induced oxyallylations of enoxysilanes with (1E,3Z)-1-(1-phenylethoxy)penta-1,3-dien-3-y ...

Due to the spongistatins' fascinating and complex molecular architectures, and their important biological activities, these marine macrolides have been the subject of intensive efforts directed towards their total synthesis. As an attractive alternative to ...

Sulfur poisoning in a strontium doped lanthanum cobaltite (LSC) cathode current collection layer was revealed in a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) tested in repeat-element and stack configuration. Sources of sulfur contamination, other than trace SOx in air, ...
