With the rise of technology and market demand, unmanned devices, particularly drones, are increasingly used in logistics due to their speed and cost-efficiency. However, the persistence of limiting factors such as battery life and payload capacity has rend ...

Extreme heat events in urban areas increasingly challenge the capacity of electrical distribution systems to serve building cooling equipment under peak loads and, when power is interrupted, the thermal response of buildings that can delay the onset of dan ...

This study explores the practical viability of repurposing aging Kaplan turbines into variable-speed propellers by employing full-size frequency converters. The motivation behind this approach is to improve the provision of Frequency Containment Reserve (F ...

Planning aircraft trajectories to avoid climate-sensitive areas poses operational challenges, including increased traffic complexity and potential safety risks. This study presents a framework designed to plan operationally feasible climate-friendly routes ...

Recently, efficiently deploying deep learning solutions on the edge has received increasing attention. New platforms are emerging to support the increasing demand for flexibility and high performance. In this work, we explore the efficient mapping of convo ...

This paper proposes a scalable stochastic optimization model and a Markov chain-based scenario generation method to benefit from an active distribution network's (ADN's) flexibility. The optimization variables are the dispatch plan, such as the active and ...

In logic circuits, the number of fanouts a gate can drive is limited, and such limits are tighter in emerging technologies such as superconducting electronic circuits. In this work, we study the problem of resynthesizing a logic network with bounded-fanout ...

The levels of agility and flight or swimming performance demonstrated by insects, birds, fish, and even some aquatic invertebrates, are often vastly superior to what even the most advanced human-engineered vehicles operating in the same regimes are capable ...

We study the problem of matching bidders to items where each bidder i has general, strictly monotonic utility functions u(i,j)(p(j)) expressing his utility of being matched to item j at price p(j). For this setting we prove that a bidder optimal outcome al ...
