This work is addressing the arenes' hydrogenation-the processes of high importance for petrochemical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Noble metal (Pd, Pt, Ru) nanoparticles (NPs) stabilized in hyper-cross-linked polystyrene (HPS) were shown to be a ...

Noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) are ideal scaffolds for the fabrication of sensing devices because of their high surface-to-volume ratio combined with their unique optical and electrical properties which are extremely sensitive to changes in the environmen ...

The main focus of this thesis is the exploration of inorganic and metal-organic heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogen (H2) energy applications. In particular, we investigated metal nanoparticles (NPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for their employment ...

From a geometrical perspective, a chiral object does not have mirror planes or inversion symmetry. It exhibits the same physical properties as its mirror image (enantiomer), except for the chiroptical activity, which is often the opposite. Recent advanceme ...

Due to the highly complex polyphenolic structure of lignin, depolymerization without a prior chemical treatment is challenging, and new catalysts are required. Atomically dispersed catalysts are able to maximize the atomic efficiency of noble metals, simul ...

In the CO2 reduction reaction, the design of electrocatalysts that selectively promote alcohols over hydrocarbons (e.g., ethanol over ethylene) hinges on the understanding of the pathways and specific sites that form alcohols. Herein, theoretical considera ...

We investigate the impact of the formation process of Cu nanoparticles on the distribution of adsorption sites and hence on their activity. Using molecular dynamics, we model formation pathways characteristic of physical synthesis routes as the annealing o ...

Predicting when phase changes occur in nanoparticles is fundamental for designing the next generation of devices suitable for catalysis, biomedicine, optics, chemical sensing and electronic circuits. The estimate of the temperature at which metallic nanopa ...

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is envisioned to play a significant role in achieving carbon neutrality while contributing to storing renewable energies. Cu-based materials are among the most promising electrocatalysts. However, 16 diffe ...

Since H2 is a non-polluting, inexhaustible, efficient, and sustainable energy carrier, it has been forecast to become one of the major carriers of energy in the future and is also essential in the production of feedstock chemicals derived from renewable ca ...

The viscoelastic behavior of dilute suspensions of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanoparticles in a liquid SU8 epoxy dissolved in gamma butyrolactone was investigated at RGO concentrations in the range from 0.16 to 1.07 vol. %. Our results revealed that the ...

Aminated derivatives of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and furfural are critical intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry. The state-of-the-art catalysts currently used for these syntheses are mostly homogeneous in nature, motivating the design of recy ...
