Indole is one of the most important heterocycles widely present in bioactive natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and materials. Being easily accessible, the 2-nitrostyrenes are attractive starting materials for the indole synthesis and the Cad ...

Efficient valorization of lignin, a sustainable source of functionalized aromatic products, would reduce dependence on fossil-derived feedstocks. Oxidative depolymerization is frequently applied to lignin to generate phenolic mono- mers. However, due to th ...

We report herein an asymmetric Pictet– Spengler reaction of α-ketoesters. In the presence of a catalytic amount of simple alanine-derived squaramide and p-nitrobenzoic acid, reaction of tryptamines with methyl 2-oxoalkanoates afforded the corresponding 1- ...

The development of a sequential copper-catalyzed oxy-alkynylation/intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition of allenes and arenes was investigated at first. This one-pot protocol allowed the construction of complex polycylic architectures with high efficiency fro ...

This review presents an account of the palladium-catalyzed functionalizations of alkenes and alkynes developed at the Laboratory of Catalysis and Organic Synthesis (LCSO). Starting from the intramolecular oxy- and aminoalkynylation of alkenes, tethered met ...

Cross-coupling of two alkyl fragments is an efficient method to produce organic molecules rich in sp(3)-hybridized carbon centres, which are attractive candidate compounds in drug discovery. Enantioselective C(sp(3))-C(sp(3)) coupling is challenging, espec ...

Asymmetric metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization has enjoyed great success as a powerful strategy for the rapid construction of elaborate structures from simple precursors. For example, aryl (pseudo)halides have been extensively employed as electrophilic s ...

The reaction of readily available and bench-stable N-alkoxypyridinium salts with arylboronic and vinylboronic acids afforded delta-aryl and delta-vinyl alcohols, respectively, in the presence of fac-Ir(ppy)(3) and Cu(OTf)(2) dual catalysts. The reaction ta ...

The tandem synthesis of benzimidazole and other azoles can be achived by the N-formylation of ortho-substituted anilines followed by a cyclization reaction. However, CO2-based N-formylations with hydrosilane reducing agents are base catalyzed whereas the c ...

The thesis describes a simple approach for N-formylation of amines with CO2 and hydrosilane reducing agents, the use of organic salts as N-formylation catalysts, their physical properties required for high catalytic activity and their role in the catalytic ...

The total synthesis of pentacyclic monoterpene indole alkaloids is the focus of this thesis. Total syntheses of (±)-alstilobanine C, (±)-undulifoline and (±)-alstilobanine B, three natural products from the Ulean family of alkaloids, were accomplished. The ...

Carbo- and heterocyclic structures containing nitrogen-substituted stereocenters are recurrent structural motifs in natural and bioactive compounds, therefore constituting a privileged class of synthetic targets. In this regard, substituted three- and four ...

Amines are a quintessential moiety in bioactive molecules, pharmaceuticals and organic materials. Transition-metal-catalysed C–N coupling of aryl electrophiles has been established as a powerful and reliable method for amine synthesis. However, the analogo ...

Vicinal amino alcohols and diamines are privileged motifs in organic chemistry. As such, they have been targets of choice for exploring and developing novel and more efficient strategies in organic synthesis. In this context, the difunctionalization of ole ...

Alkene functionality can be found in the majority of natural products, drugs, catalysts and organic materials. Therefore, methods of C-C double bond formation constitute a cornerstone of organic synthesis. Selective formation of either (Z)- or (E)-isomer i ...

Catalysis fulfills the promise that high-yielding chemical transformations will require little energy and produce no toxic waste. This message is carried by the study of the evolution of molecular catalysis of some of the most important reactions in organi ...

A highly enantioselective, chiral, Lewis acid calcium–bis(phosphate) complex, Ca[3a]n, which catalyzes the electrophilic amination of enamides with azodicarboxylate derivatives 2 to provide versatile chiral 1,2-hydrazinoimines 4 is disclosed. The reaction ...

Trigonoliimines are hexacyclic bisindole alkaloids isolated recently by Hao and co-workers. A synthesis of (±)-trigonoliimine B was accomplished in seven steps from simple starting materials featuring the Bischler-Napieralski reaction for closing the seven ...

Synthetic studies towards the construction of the cyclopenta[a]indene fragment of the heptacyclic marine metabolite sporolide are reported based on a hypothetical biosynthesis. The key step of this biogenetic proposal includes a Bergman cyclization of an e ...

Provided is a process for prepn. of asym. substituted biaryldiphosphine ligands I (R1 = C1-6-alkyl, C3-10-cycloalkyl optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms; R2, R3 = aryl, C5-10-cycloalkyl, C1-6-alkyl, or R2 = C5-10-cycloalkyl, C1-6-alkyl; R ...
