The High Energy cosmic-Radiation Detection facility (HERD) is a calorimetric experiment planned to be launched in 2027. It will be operational for at least 10 years on board the China Space Station. With HERD we will measure the energy flux of cosmic proto ...

In this thesis, the development and testing of a system for measuring the axial distribution of fast neutron emission of spent nuclear fuel rods is presented. Emphasis is placed on the novel fast neutron detector used which can reliably work in extremely h ...

The time-resolved visualization of the dynamics of a cavitation bubble usually requires the use of expensive high-speed cameras, which often provide a limited spatial resolution. In the present study, we propose an alternative to these high-speed imaging t ...

We show that the IceCube observation of the Galactic neutrino-flux component confirms the hint of detection of neutrinos from the Galactic ridge (the inner part of the Milky Way disk within the Galactic longitude IlI < 30(degrees)), previously reported by ...

Hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) is a well known material for its radiation resistance and for the possibility of deposition on flexible substrates like Polyimide (PI), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polyethylene naphthalate (PEN). Due to the p ...

In recent years, the automotive industry has aspired to bring self-driving vehicles to the general public and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors have emerged as the preferred solution for car vision systems. At present, LiDAR technologies employ e ...

Magnetic fields occupying the voids of the large scale structure may be a relic from the Early Universe originating from either Inflation or from cosmological phase transitions. We explore the possibility of identifying the inflationary origin of the void ...

The Tibet AS gamma collaboration has reported a diffuse gamma-ray emission signal from the Galactic Plane. We consider the possibility that the diffuse emission from the outer Galactic Plane at the highest energies is produced by cosmic rays spreading from ...

We present DARKFLUX, a software tool designed to analyze indirect-detection signatures for next-generation models of dark matter (DM) with multiple annihilation channels. Version 1.0 of this tool accepts user-generated models with 2 -> 2 tree-level dark ma ...

Microscopy by Achromatic X-rays With Emission of Laminar Light (MAXWELL) is a new X-ray/visible technique with attractive characteristics including isotropic resolution in all directions, large-volume imaging and high throughput. An ultrathin, laminar X-ra ...

Detecting light, photon by photon, has been possible since the 1930s, with the invention of the photomultiplier tube (PMT). However, it is only since the 1970s, that solid-state single-photon detectors have emerged and only since 2003 that a new technology ...

This paper describes the development of a novel medical x-ray imaging system adapted to the needs and constraints of low- and middle-income countries. The developed system is based on an indirect conversion chain: a scintillator plate produces visible ligh ...

We study the dynamics of a cavitation bubble near beds of sand of different grain sizes. We use high-speed imaging to observe the motion of the bubble and the sand for different values of the stand-off parameter gamma (dimensionless bubble-boundary distanc ...

Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) provides a unique contrast mechanism to monitor biological parameters and molecular events in vivo. Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) cameras have been recently demonstrated in FLI microscopy (FLIM ...

The response function of CdTe detectors used in a hard X-ray spectrometer system (HXRS) on the TCV tokamak fusion experiment is modeled based on the measured energy spectra from multiple gamma-ray sources. The response function consists of an asymmetric Ga ...

Camera calibration refers to the modeling of the relationship between the coordinates of object points and their projections on the image plane. This is usually done by parametric models that describe the physical properties of the lens systems and camera ...

This work proposes a method to measure the photon polarisation in

B^+ \rightarrow K^+ \pi^- \pi^+ \gamma

decays and prepares the necessary elements for this measurement using the data sets collected by the LHCb experiment at CERN in

Significance: Despite recent developments in microscopy, temporal aliasing can arise when imaging dynamic samples. Modern sampling frameworks, such as generalized sampling, mitigate aliasing but require measurement of temporally overlapping and potentially ...

The present invention relates to a semiconductor sensor (1) comprising: a source element (17, 19); a drain element (21, 23); a semiconductor channel element (25) between the source element (17, 19) and the drain element (21, 23) for forming an electrically ...

Synchrotron micro- and nanoprobe beamlines have demonstrated great potential to advance photovoltaic devices. Most importantly, their small X-ray spot size has enabled the direct correlation of electrical performance with elemental composition at subgrain ...
