Triaxial testing of argillaceous rocks and shales is significantly more challenging than conventional rock mechanical testing. The challenges are mainly related to the very low permeability of these geomaterials, and their sensitivity to exposure of atmosp ...

This paper analyzes the implementation of least-mean-squares (LMS)-based, adaptive diffusion algorithms over networks in the frequency-domain (FD). We focus on a scenario of noisy links and include a moving-average step for denoising after self-learning to ...

Many classical Computer Vision problems, such as essential matrix computation and pose estimation from 3D to 2D correspondences, can be tackled by solving a linear least-square problem, which can be done by finding the eigenvector corresponding to the smal ...

Motivated by the recent successes of neural networks that have the ability to fit the data perfectly \emph{and} generalize well, we study the noiseless model in the fundamental least-squares setup. We assume that an optimum predictor fits perfectly inputs ...

Quasi-Newton (qN) techniques approximate the Newton step by estimating the Hessian using the so-called secant equations. Some of these methods compute the Hessian using several secant equations but produce non-symmetric updates. Other quasi-Newton schemes, ...

This paper describes the status on the upgrade of the first European gyrotron prototype for ITER, manufactured by Thales. The upgraded prototype, TH1509U, is now being tested to verify the performance improvements and to assess the compliance with ITER ECR ...

Objective: To investigate (i) typical protocols used in research on biomechanical response to running-induced fatigue, (ii) the effect of sport-induced acute fatigue on the biomechanics of running and functional tests, and (iii) the consistency of analyzed ...

We present a new approach for estimating the parameters of three-phase untransposed electrically short transmission lines using voltage/current synchrophasor measurements obtained from phasor measurement units. The parameters to be estimated are the entrie ...
