Music can be interpreted by attributing syntactic relationships to sequential musical events, and, computationally, such musical interpretation represents an analogous combinatorial task to syntactic processing in language. While this perspective has been ...

Modern digital connectivity has necessitated the creation of robust methods for securely storing and transferring data. At the heart of all security infrastructure is the random number generator (RNG). While random numbers find use in a variety of applicat ...

Electric vehicle charging facilities offer their capacity constrained electric charge and parking to users for a fee. As electric vehicle adoption grows, so too does the potential for excessive resource utilization. In this paper, we study how prices set b ...

To benefit from the cloud’s higher elasticity and price-efficiency, most modern data-lake engines support S3-like cloud object storage (COS) services as their optional or preferred underlying storage. Meanwhile, the widespread column stores, such as Parque ...

We introduce the "continuized" Nesterov acceleration, a close variant of Nesterov acceleration whose variables are indexed by a continuous time parameter. The two variables continuously mix following a linear ordinary differential equation and take gradien ...

The adoption of process analytical technologies by the biopharmaceutical industry can reduce the cost of therapeutic drugs and facilitate investigation of new bioprocesses. Control of critical process parameters to retain critical product quality attribute ...

We consider one-dimensional excited random walks (ERWs) with i.i.d. Markovian cookie stacks in the non-boundary recurrent regime. We prove that under diffusive scaling such an ERW converges in the standard Skorokhod topology to a multiple of Brownian motio ...

Recent theory proposes that edge dislocations in random body-centered cubic (BCC) high entropy alloys have high barriers for motion, conveying high strengths up to high temperatures. Here, the energy barriers for edge motion are computed for two model allo ...

Theory-based scaling laws of the near and far scrape-off layer (SOL) widths are analytically derived for L-mode diverted tokamak discharges by using a two-fluid model. The near SOL pressure and density decay lengths are obtained by leveraging a balance amo ...

We consider various versions of the obstacle and thin-obstacle problems, we interpret them as variational inequalities, with non-smooth constraint, and prove that they satisfy a new constrained Lojasiewicz inequality. The difficulty lies in the fact that, ...

In this paper, we present an efficient, functional, and formally verified parsing algorithm for LL(1) context-free expressions based on the concept of derivatives of formal languages. Parsing with derivatives is an elegant parsing technique, which, in the ...

In modern electric power networks with fast evolving operational conditions, assessing the impact of contingencies is becoming more and more crucial. Contingencies of interest can be roughly classified into nodal power disturbances and line faults. Despite ...

In this paper, we introduce and analyze a new low-rank multilevel strategy for the solution of random diffusion problems. Using a standard stochastic collocation scheme, we first approximate the infinite dimensional random problem by a deterministic parame ...

PDF has become a de facto standard for exchanging electronic documents, for visualization as well as for printing. However, it has also become a common delivery channel for malware, and previous work has highlighted features that lead to security issues. I ...

The collective dynamic behavior of large groups of interacting autonomous agents (swarms) have inspired much research in both fundamental and engineering sciences. It is now widely acknowledged that the intrinsic nonlinearities due to mutual interactions c ...

We consider elliptic random walks in i.i.d. random environments on . The main goal of this paper is to study under which ellipticity conditions local trapping occurs. Our main result is to exhibit an ellipticity criterion for ballistic behavior which exten ...

We analyze the recent Multi-index Stochastic Collocation (MISC) method for computing statistics of the solution of a partial differential equation (PDE) with random data, where the random coefficient is parametrized by means of a countable sequence of term ...

We focus on the control of heterogeneous swarms of agents that evolve in a random environment. Control is achieved by introducing special agents: leader and infiltrated (shill) agents. A refined distinction is made between hidden and apparent controlling a ...

We consider the simple random walk on Z(d) evolving in a random i.i.d. potential taking values in [0, +infinity). The potential is not assumed integrable, and can be rescaled by a multiplicative factor lambda > 0. Completing the work started in a companion ...

Source imaging maps back boundary measurements to underlying generators within the domain; e. g., retrieving the parameters of the generating dipoles from electrical potential measurements on the scalp such as in electroencephalography (EEG). Fitting such ...
