The rise of electron spin qubit architectures for quantum computing processors has led to a strong interest in designing and integrating ferromagnets to induce stray magnetic fields for electron dipole spin resonance (EDSR). The integration of nanomagnets ...

Electrochemical liquid-phase electron microscopy (ec-LPEM) has been seen as a promising technique for revealing new insights into electrochemical phenomena that occur at the micro- and nanoscale levels, particularly at the solid-liquid interface. Specifica ...

The creation of a universal quantum computer that can solve complex problems beyond the reach of classical computers - the so-called "quantum supremacy" - is an open challenge. For this to become a reality, a large number of qubits should be integrated in ...

Two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) is used to theoretically and experimentally study a minimal three level “V” system (3LVS) with one ground state and two excited states coupled to common displaced harmonic oscillator modes. The third order non ...

Spin excitations play a fundamental role in understanding magnetic properties of materials, and have significant technological implications for magnonic devices. However, accurately modeling these in transition-metal and rare-earth compounds remains a form ...

Spin-orbit coupling in noncentrosymmetric crystals leads to spin-momentum locking - a directional relationship between an electron's spin angular momentum and its linear momentum. Isotropic orthogonal Rashba spin-momentum locking has been studied for decad ...

The NA62 experiment at CERN, configured in beam-dump mode, has searched for dark photon decays in flight to electron-positron pairs using a sample of 1.4 x 10(17) protons on dump collected in 2021. No evidence for a dark photon signal is observed. The comb ...

The central exclusive production of charged-hadron pairs in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is examined, based on data collected in a special high-beta* run of the LHC. The nonresonant continuum processes are studied with the invariant m ...

Through quasiparticle self-consistent GW, we investigate the electronic structure of the antiferromagnetic ground state of four transition-metal monoxides: MnO, FeO, CoO, and NiO. In addition to the random-phase approximation, we consider two different sch ...

Understanding the relationship between the crystal structure, chemical bonding, and lattice dynamics is crucial for the design of materials with low thermal conductivities, which are essential in fields as diverse as thermoelectrics, thermal barrier coatin ...

A correlative, multiscale imaging methodology for visualising and quantifying the morphology of solid dosage forms by combining ptychographic X-ray computed nanotomography (PXCT) and scanning small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (S/WAXS) is presented. Th ...

Hydroxide exchange membrane fuel cell (HEMFC) is a potentially cost-effective energy conversion technology. However, current state-of-the-art HEMFCs require a high loading of platinum-group-metal (PGM) catalysts, especially for the hydrogen oxidation react ...

Most realistic kinetic calculations for tokamak plasmas are now required to incorporate the effect of partially ionized high-Z elements arising either from uncontrolled influxes of metallic impurities, such as tungsten in high input power regimes or from m ...

For large scale magnets wound with cable-in-conduit conductors, the safe operation of the joints is of paramount importance to guarantee adequate reliability and stability margin of the whole magnet. For this reason, during the R & D activities undertaken ...

Water is the liquid of life thanks to its three-dimensional adaptive hydrogen (H)-bond network. Confinement of this network may lead to dramatic structural changes influencing chemical and physical transformations. Although confinement effects occur on a < ...

Plasma wakefield acceleration is a promising technology to reduce the size of particle accelerators. The use of high energy protons to drive wakefields in plasma has been demonstrated during Run 1 of the AWAKE programme at CERN. Protons of energy 400 GeV d ...
