Information theory has allowed us to determine the fundamental limit of various communication and algorithmic problems, e.g., the channel coding problem, the compression problem, and the hypothesis testing problem. In this work, we revisit the assumptions ...

The present invention relates to a compound of the general formula (I), and (II)wherein one of R11 and R12 is hydrogen and the other is -CH2-R70, and one of R13 and R14 is hydrogen and the other is -CH2-R71, or wherein one of R11 and R12 is hydrogen and th ...

Commitment is a key primitive which resides at the heart of several cryptographic protocols. Noisy channels can help realize information-theoretically secure commitment schemes; however, their imprecise statistical characterization can severely impair such ...

Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoder is among the power hungry building blocks of wireless communication systems. Voltage scaling down to Near-Threshold (NT) voltages substantially improves energy efficiency, in theory up 10x. However, tuning the voltag ...

Collaborative learning algorithms, such as distributed SGD (or D-SGD), are prone to faulty machines that may deviate from their prescribed algorithm because of software or hardware bugs, poisoned data or malicious behaviors. While many solutions have been ...

The beginning of 21st century provided us with many answers about how to reach the channel capacity. Polarization and spatial coupling are two techniques for achieving the capacity of binary memoryless symmetric channels under low-complexity decoding algor ...

Previous works on age of information and erasure channels have dealt with specific models and computed the average age or average peak age for certain settings. In this paper, given a source that produces a letter every T-s seconds and an erasure channel t ...

The recently introduced polar codes constitute a breakthrough in coding theory due to their capacity-achieving property. This goes hand in hand with a quasilinear construction, encoding, and successive cancellation list decoding procedures based on the Plo ...

Locally correctable codes (LCCs) are error correcting codes C : \Sigmak \rightarrow \Sigman which admit local algorithms that correct any individual symbol of a corrupted codeword via a minuscule number of queries. For systematic codes, this notion is stro ...

The de-facto standard decoding algorithm for polar codes, successive cancellation list (SCL) decoding, is a breadth-first search algorithm. By keeping a list of candidate codewords, SCL decoding improves the performance as the list size L increases. Howeve ...

We revise the proof of low-rate upper bounds on the reliability function of discrete memoryless channels for ordinary and list-decoding schemes, in particular Berlekamp and Blinovsky's zero-rate bound, as well as Blahut's bound for low rates. The available ...

Since the birth of Information Theory, researchers have defined and exploited various information measures, as well as endowed them with operational meanings. Some were born as a "solution to a problem", like Shannon's Entropy and Mutual Information. Other ...

Edge-based and face-based smoothed finite element methods (ES-FEM and FS-FEM, respectively) are modified versions of the finite element method allowing to achieve more accurate results and to reduce sensitivity to mesh distortion, at least for linear eleme ...

This work develops new algorithms with rigorous efficiency guarantees for infinite horizon imitation learning (IL) with linear function approximation without restrictive coherence assumptions. We begin with the minimax formulation of the problem and then o ...

Phase synchronizations in models of coupled oscillators such as the Kuramoto model have been widely studied with pairwise couplings on arbitrary topologies, showing many unexpected dynamical behaviors. Here, based on a recent formulation the Kuramoto model ...

We strengthen the results from a recent work by the second author, achieving bounds on the weight distribution of binary linear codes that are successful under block-MAP (as well as bit-MAP) decoding on the BEC. We conclude that a linear code that is succe ...

In the Shannon lecture at the 2019 International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), Arikan proposed to employ a one-to-one convolutional transform as a pre-coding step before the polar transform. The resulting codes of this concatenation are called po ...

We study the stability of low-density parity-check codes under blockwise or bitwise maximum a posteriori decoding, where transmission takes place over a binary-input memoryless output-symmetric channel. Our study stems from the consideration of constructin ...

We start this short note by introducing two remarkable mathematical objects: the E8E8 root lattice Lambda8Lambda8 in 8-dimensional Euclidean space and the Leech lattice Lambda24Lambda24 in 24-dimensional space. These two lattices stand out among their lat ...

Recently, a new adaptive path interpolation method has been developed as a simple and versatile scheme to calculate exactly the asymptotic mutual information of Bayesian inference problems defined on dense factor graphs. These include random linear and gen ...
