In rare earth nickelates, the metal-to-insulator transition observed as a function of temperature can be described using an electronic and a structural order parameter. The electronic one is linked to the electronic disproportionation observed below the tr ...

The discovery of superconductivity in doped infinite-layer nickelate thin films has brought increased attention to the behavior of the doped perovskite phase. Despite this interest, the majority of existing studies pertain to hole-doped perovskite rare-ear ...

The significant discrepancy observed between the predicted and experimental switching fields in correlated insulators under a DC electric field far-from-equilibrium necessitates a reevaluation of current microscopic understanding. Here we show that an elec ...

In this work, we investigate the intrinsic cycle-to-cycle variations in a spiking temperature-sensitive neuron, based on the resistive switching of a Vanadium dioxide (VO2) two-terminal device. We study how this phenomenon impacts the spike rate jitter, an ...

The subject of the present work is discovery and in-depth characterization of a new class of functional materials. Tuning of the bond polarity and orbital occupation with a goal of establishing balance between localization and delocalization of electrons - ...

There is a never-ending push for electronic systems to provide faster operation speeds, higher energy efficiencies, and higher power capabilities at smaller scales. These requirements are apparent in different areas of electronics, from radiofrequency (RF) ...

In the quest for low power bio-inspired spiking sensors, functional oxides like vanadium dioxide are expected to enable future energy efficient sensing. Here, we report uncooled millimeter-wave spiking detectors based on the sensitivity of insulator-to-met ...

For decades transition-metal oxides have generated a huge interest due to the multitude of physical phenomena they exhibit. In this class of materials, the rare-earth nickelates, RNiO3, stand out for their rich phase diagram stemming from complex couplings ...

The ability to control high-voltage actuator arrays relies, to date, on expensive microelectronic processes or on individual wiring of each actuator to a single off-chip high-voltage switch. Here we present an alternative approach that uses on-chip photoco ...

The rapid progress in high capacity communication systems is reaching extremely high data rates of 100 Gb s−1, which demands electronic switches with cut-off frequencies well above 1 THz. The excellent electron transport properties of III-V heterojunctions ...

In this perspective, we discuss the current and future impact of artificial intelligence and machine learning for the purposes of better understanding phase transitions, particularly in correlated electron materials. We take as a model system the rare-eart ...

Electron-phonon (e-ph) interactions are pervasive in condensed matter, governing phenomena such as transport, superconductivity, charge-density waves, polarons, and metal-insulator transitions. First-principles approaches enable accurate calculations of e- ...

Employing X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and momentum-resolved density fluctuation (MRDF) theory, the magnetic and electronic properties of ultrathin NdNiO3 (NNO) film in proximity to ferromagne ...

The broad applications of ultrawide-band signals and terahertz waves in quantum measurements, imaging and sensing techniques, advanced biological treatments, and very-high-data-rate communications have drawn extensive attention to ultrafast electronics. In ...

The characteristic length scale and mechanism of the metal-insulator transition in nickelate superlattices is addressed, with implications for the design of oxide electronics. ...

In this Letter, we report and investigate the temperature dependency of various radio frequency (RF) parameters for a fabricated reconfigurable bandstop filter with vanadium dioxide (VO2) switches measured up to 55 GHz. Here, the insulator-to-metal (ITM) a ...

The goal of this thesis is to explore the "neglected" third dimension of layered materials, by studying the interlayer charge dynamics through dc conductivity, optical spectroscopy and ab-initio calculations. This project was designed to respond to the gro ...

Recently, the field of Metal-Insulator-Transition (MIT) materials has emerged as an unconventional solution for novel energy efficient electronic functions, such as steep slope subthermionic switches, neuromorphic hardware, reconfigurable radiofrequency fu ...

Mo8O23 is a low-dimensional chemically robust transition metal oxide coming from a prospective family of functional materials, MoO3-x, ranging from a wide gap insulator (x = 0) to a metal (x = 1). The large number of stoichometric compounds with intermedia ...

GaN-based electronic devices have great potential for future power applications, thanks to their wide band-gap, high breakdown electric field, and high electron mobility. In addition, these devices can be integrated on large-size Si substrates and enable n ...
