We develop a very general version of the hyperbola method which extends the known method by Blomer and Brudern for products of projective spaces to complete smooth split toric varieties. We use it to count Campana points of bounded log-anticanonical height ...

We construct a modular desingularisation of (M) over bar (2,n)(P-r, d)(main). The geometry of Gorenstein singularities of genus two leads us to consider maps from prestable admissible covers; with this enhanced logarithmic structure, it is possible to desi ...

Easy-to-use and accurate heart rate variability (HRV) assessments are essential in athletes??? follow-up, but artifacts may lead to erroneous analysis. Artifact detection and correction are the purpose of extensive literature and implemented in dedicated a ...

We prove that the real cohomology of semi-simple Lie groups admits boundary values, which are measurable cocycles on the Furstenberg boundary. This generalises known invariants such as the Maslov index on Shilov boundaries, the Euler class on projective sp ...

The design and construction of doubly-curved structures often reveals to be challenging and can result in complex manufacturing and assembly. A recent strategy to tackle this difficulty consists in exploiting the connection between discrete differential ge ...

Let k be an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic, let G be a simple simply connected linear algebraic group and let V be a rational irreducible tensor-indecomposable finite-dimensional kG-module. For an element g of G we denote by $V_{g}( ...

We continue our work, started in [9], on the program of classifying triples (X, Y, V), where X, Yare simple algebraic groups over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero with X < Y, and Vis an irreducible module for Y such that the restriction ...

The plasma design point during stationary phase operation of EU-DEMO has been described extensively in the past, and the assumptions employed for its definition have been supported by various investigations. However, a stationary snapshot is by far not suf ...

We consider the influence of transverse confinement on the instability properties of velocity and density distributions reminiscent of those pertaining to exchange flows in stratified inclined ducts, such as the recent experiment of Lefauve et al. [J. Flui ...

Secondary electron emission (SEE) of solid materials due to electron bombardment is influenced by numerous properties of materials, where the surface condition plays a critical role in the value of secondary electron yield (SEY). Here, a 3D random microstr ...

The wave functions of a disordered two-dimensional electron gas at the quantum-critical Anderson transition are predicted to exhibit multifractal scaling in their real space amplitude. We experimentally investigate the appearance of these characteristics i ...

The design of envelopes with complex geometries often leads to construction challenges. To overcome these difficulties, resorting to discrete differential geometry proved successful by establishing close links between mesh properties and the existence of g ...

Purpose: Silent brain infarcts (SBI) are frequently detected in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), but it is unknown whether SBI are linked to autonomic dysfunction. We aimed to explore the association of autonomic dysfunction with SBI in AF patients. ...

The problem of estimating a surface shape from its observed reflectance properties still remains a challenging task in computer vision. The presence of global illumination effects such as inter-reflections or cast shadows makes the task particularly diffic ...

For long-pulse tokamaks, one of the main challenges in the control strategy is to simultaneously reach multiple control objectives and to robustly handle in real-time (RT) unexpected events [off-normal-events (ONEs)] with a limited set of actuators. We hav ...

We study the energy distribution of harmonic 1-forms on a compact hyperbolic Riemann surface S where a short closed geodesic is pinched. If the geodesic separates the surface into two parts, then the Jacobian variety of S develops into a variety that split ...

We introduce a distributionally robust maximum likelihood estimation model with a Wasserstein ambiguity set to infer the inverse covariance matrix of a p-dimensional Gaussian random vector from n independent samples. The proposed model minimizes the worst ...

Many decision problems in science, engineering, and economics are affected by uncertainty, which is typically modeled by a random variable governed by an unknown probability distribution. For many practical applications, the probability distribution is onl ...

Both numerical simulations and data-driven methods have been applied in dam's displacement modeling. For monitored displacement data-driven methods, the physical mechanism and structural correlations were rarely discussed. In order to take the spatial and ...

Understanding fluid flow in rough fractures is of high importance to large scale geologic processes and to most anthropogenic geo‐energy activities. Here we conducted fluid transport experiments on Carrara marble fractures with a novel customized surface t ...
