Most infrastructure in the western world was built in the second half of the 20th century. Transportation structures, water distribution networks and energy production systems are now aging and this leads to safety and serviceability issues. In situations ...

Al95.5Cr2.5Si2(N1-xOx) thin films were prepared using pulsed DC-magnetron sputtering at 650 degrees C by changing the oxygen to nitrogen ratio (O-2/(O-2 + N-2)) in the reactive gas. The obtained films were characterized by various techniques including XRD, ...

The concentration of oxygen and its rate of consumption are important factors in certain medical treatments, such as radiotherapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT). Measuring the tissue concentration of oxygen or its partial pressure (pO2) can be achieved by ...

The eddy correlation technique is rapidly becoming an established method for resolving dissolved oxygen fluxes in natural aquatic systems. This direct and noninvasive determination of oxygen fluxes close to the sediment by simultaneously measuring the velo ...

Seiche-induced turbulence and the vertical distribution of dissolved oxygen above and within the sediment were analyzed to evaluate the sediment oxygen uptake rate (J(O2)), diffusive boundary layer thickness (delta(DBL)), and sediment oxic zone depth (z(ma ...

In real-time quantum feedback protocols(1,2), the record of a continuous measurement is used to stabilize a desired quantum state. Recent years have seen successful applications of these protocols in a variety of well-isolated micro-systems, including micr ...

Turbulent oxygen transport from the overlying stratified water column into the bottom boundary layer (BBL) on the slope of a medium-sized lake was investigated using the eddy correlation (EC) technique. The seicheinduced oscillatory flow of the BBL, with a ...

Wind behavior in urban areas is receiving an increasing amount of interest from city planners and architects. In the context of Singapore, knowledge of wind behavior helps to improve building ventilation and, on a larger scale, urban ventilation. Computati ...

The reduction of palladium oxide nanoparticles in the presence of hydrogen peroxide or dissolved oxygen gives rise to a catalytic reduction current dependent on the hydrogen peroxide concentration or the oxygen concentration. Using terephthalic acid as an ...

We examine the dynamics of turbulence subgrid (or sub-filter) scales over a lake surface and the implications for large-eddy simulations (LES) of the atmospheric boundary layer. The analysis is based on measurements obtained during the Lake-Atmosphere Turb ...
