Random axion theories with several hundred fields have enormous numbers of distinct meta-stable minima. A small fraction of these have vacuum energy compatible with current measurements of dark energy. The potential also contains regions suitable for infla ...

The European Pulsar Timing Array (EPTA) and Indian Pulsar Timing Array (InPTA) collaborations have measured a low-frequency common signal in the combination of their second and first data releases, respectively, with the correlation properties of a gravita ...

Quantum Field Theories are a central object of interest of modern physics, describing fundamental interactions of matter. However, current methods give limited insight into strongly coupling theories. S-matrix bootstrap program, described in this thesis, a ...

Geometric properties of lattice quantum gravity in two dimensions are studied numerically via Monte Carlo on Euclidean Dynamical Triangulations. A new computational method is proposed to simulate gravity coupled with fermions, which allows the study of int ...

Within the AdS/CFT correspondence, we identify a class of CFT operators which represent diff-invariant and approximately local observables in the gravitational dual. Provided that the bulk state breaks all asymptotic symmetries, we show that these operator ...

We find the conditions under which scale-invariant Einstein-Cartan gravity with scalar matter fields leads to an approximate conformal invariance of the flat space particle theory up to energies of the order of the Planck mass. In the minimal setup, these ...

This paper describes CosmoGattice, a modern package for lattice simulations of the dynamics of interacting scalar and gauge fields in an expanding universe. CosmoGattice incorporates a series of features that makes it very versatile and powerful: i) it is ...

Weak-lensing studies via cosmic voids are a promising probe of modified gravity (MG). The excess surface mass density (ESD) is widely used as a lensing statistic in weak-lensing research. In this paper, we use the ray-tracing method to study the ESD around ...

The classical Lagrangian of the Standard Model enjoys the symmetry of the full conformal group if the mass of the Higgs boson is put to zero. This is a hint that conformal symmetry may play a fundamental role in the ultimate theory describing nature. The o ...

We expand Hilbert series technologies in effective field theory for the inclusion of massive particles, enabling, among other things, the enumeration of operator bases for non-linearly realized gauge theories. We find that the Higgs mechanism is manifest a ...

We revisit the effective field theory of the two Higgs doublet model at tree level. The introduction of a novel basis in the UV theory allows us to derive matching coefficients in the effective description that resum important contributions from the Higgs ...

In this Letter, we address the question of whether the conformal invariance can be considered as a global symmetry of a theory of fundamental interactions. To describe Nature, this theory must contain a mechanism of spontaneous breaking of the scale symmet ...

We study preheating following Higgs inflation in the Palatini formulation of gravity. We numerically evolve perturbations of the radial mode of the Higgs field and that of three scalars modeling the gauge bosons. We compare the two non-perturbative mechani ...

In the framework of mixed Higgs-Starobinsky inflation, we consider the generation of Abelian gauge fields due to their nonminimal coupling to gravity (in two different formulations of gravity-metric and Palatini). We couple the gauge-field invariants F mu ...

Spectroscopic surveys aim to map large fractions of the Universe to study the Large Scale Structures (LSS). LSS evolution traces the distribution of matter as a result of the tension between the expansion of the Universe and the gravitational forces, which ...

We study an attractive scenario, "Sleptonic SUSY", which reconciles the 125 GeV Higgs scalar and the non-observation of superpartners thus far with potentially pivotal roles for slepton phenomenology: providing viable ongoing targets for LHC discovery, inc ...

The W boson mass is measured using proton-proton collision data at root s = 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.7fb(-1) recorded during 2016 by the LHCb experiment. With a simultaneous fit of the muon q/p(T) distribution of a sample of W ...

Effective Field Theories have changed our understanding of Quantum Field Theories. This thesis shows several applications of this powerful tool in the context of the Standard Model and for searches of New Physics. The thesis starts with a review of the St ...

In recent years, the conjecture on the instability of Anti-de Sitter spacetime, put forward by Dafermos-Holzegel (Dynamic instability of solitons in 4 + 1 dimesnional gravity with negative cosmological constant, 2006. https://www.dpmms.cam.ac.uk/similar to ...

Gravitational waves, despite predicted within the Theory of General Relativity about a century ago, were observed experi-mentally only in the last few years, thanks to the recent advances of the LIGO and Virgo detectors. In this work, we introduce a simple ...
