Solid-State Transformers with Input-Series/Output-Parallel configuration offer a convenient solution for AC/DC conversion due to their scalability and modularity. In this configuration, each module experiences a second-order harmonic ripple caused by local ...

Solid-State Transformers with Input-Series/Output- Parallel configuration offer a convenient solution for AC/DC power conversion, thanks to their modularity, scalability and flexibility. However, as known, they are affected by a second-order harmonic rippl ...

Solid-state transformers with input-series outputparallel structures are being considered for a variety of applications requiring MVAC to LVDC conversion. Due to the singlephase AC/DC conversion at the input side, all floating cells of the solid-state tran ...

This paper presents the use of a shear bulk acoustic mode resonator made of a membrane of X-cut lithium niobate (LiNbO3) for ultra-wide band filter applications. Aluminum interdigitated (IDT) electrodes are deposited on top of the LiNbO3 thin film as well ...

Voice activity detection (VAD) is an important pre-processing step for speech technology applications. The task consists of deriving segment boundaries of audio signals which contain voicing information. In recent years, it has been shown that voice source ...

This paper proposes a representational model for image pairs such as consecutive video frames that are related by local pixel displacements, in the hope that the model may shed light on motion perception in primary visual cortex (V1). The model couples the ...

Parkinson's disease produces several motor symptoms, including different speech impairments that are known as hypokinetic dysarthria. Symptoms associated to dysarthria affect different dimensions of speech such as phonation, articulation, prosody, and inte ...

The recent trend of an increasing share of renewable energy sources in modern power systems, as well as the integration of power electronics equipment, is shaping the requirements for stable grid infrastructure. These requirements mainly come from the stab ...

Optical frequency combs are a series of phase-locked and equidistant laser lines in the spectral domain. In the time domain, they correspond to periodic pulse trains by the Fourier relation. The ability to shape optical combs and pulse trains is pivotal to ...

We propose a simultaneous noise filtering and phase unwrapping algorithm. Spatial evolution of phase is modeled as an autoregressive Gaussian Markov random field. Accordingly, phase value at a pixel is related to phase values at surrounding pixels in a pro ...

Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) setups have gained high importance in validation of the performance of newly developed instruments and devices with low risk and implementation cost. However, the interconnection of a power hardware with a simulated model ...

In this article, we present an X-ray tomographic imaging method that is well suited for pulmonary disease studies in animal models to resolve the full pathway from gas intake to gas exchange. Current state-of-the-art synchrotron-based tomographic phase-con ...

This paper presents a novel frequency-domain approach toward the control design for parallel grid-connected voltage source inverters (VSIs) with LCL output filters. The proposed method allows the controllers of multiple VSIs to be designed in a single step ...

A crossflow microfluidic particle concentrator including a main channel having an inlet and an outlet a crossflow outlet operably connectable with pressure means and/or flow control means, a plurality of crossflow channels fluidically connecting the crossf ...

Aspergillus fumigatus (A. fumigatus) is a ubiquitous fungus of clinical importance associated with development of various pulmonary diseases and allergic hypersensitivity reactions. It is protected against environmental stress by a cell wall that contains ...

An unidirectional short-wave infrared fiber laser, comprising a theta cavity, with a gain unit based on rare-earth cations-doped fiber, the theta cavity having a ring cavity with two additional 2 input ports×2 output ports directional couplers DC1 and DC2 ...

Lungs represent the essential part of the mammalian respiratory system, which is reflected in the fact that lung failure still is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Establishing the connection between macroscopic observations o ...

Using state-of-the-art X-ray tomographic microscopy we can image lung tissue in three dimensions in intact animals down to a micrometer precision. The structural complexity and hierarchical branching scheme of the lung at this level of details, however, re ...

Graph filters play a key role in processing the graph spectra of signals supported on the vertices of a graph. However, despite their widespread use, graph filters have been analyzed only in the deterministic setting, ignoring the impact of stochasticity i ...

In modern automated assembly lines, part feeders play an important role to separate and sort parts. Agility and flexibility are required to achieve a good yield for different types of parts. The common working principle is to vibrate a working plate driven ...
