The millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency band is becoming very interesting over the past years because it provides the opportunity to operate using large bandwidths which are not available at lower frequencies. This enables new communication standards suppor ...

This work focusses on the pilot run of a simulation campaign aimed at investigating the spectroscopic capabilities of the Euclid NearInfrared Spectrometer and Photometer (NISP), in terms of continuum and emission line detection in the context of galaxy evo ...

Coupling of space-separated resonators is interesting for quantum and communication technologies. In this work, we show that antiferromagnetic resonance in separated parallel-plane slabs of hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) couple cooperatively to terahertz electroma ...

Light matter interactions such as extinction, reflection, and transmission can be described by classical optics. Dur-ing the past decades, research focused on a novel resonant extinction type called plasmonics that allows for en-hancement of both types of ...

Magnetic skyrmions are whirl-like spin configurations with particle-like properties protected by non-trivial topology. Due to their unique spin structures and dynamical properties, they have attracted tremendous interests over the past decade, from fundame ...

Detachment, an important mechanism for reducing target heat deposition, is achieved through reductions in power, particle and momentum; which are induced through plasma-atom and plasma-molecule interactions. Experimental research in how those reactions pre ...

Automated systems based on wearable sensors for livestock monitoring are becoming increasingly popular. Specifically, wireless in-body sensors could yield relevant data, such as ruminal temperature. The collection of such data requires an accurate characte ...

The spectral properties of the Rayleigh backscattered traces measured by a phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometer (øOTDR) with direct detection are theoretically and experimentally analyzed. The spectrum of the measured øOTDR signal is found to ...

The residual broadening observed in H-1 spectra of rigid organic solids at natural abundance under 111 kHz magic angle spinning (MAS) is typically a few hundred Hertz. Here we show that refocusable and non-refocusable interactions contribute roughly equall ...

In 1906, Theodore Lyman discovered his eponymous series of transitions in the extreme-ultraviolet region of the atomic hydrogen spectrum(1,2). The patterns in the hydrogen spectrum helped to establish the emerging theory of quantum mechanics, which we now ...

A computer simulation technique is applied to the modelling of Balmer line shapes in dense divertor conditions. The spectral profile of lines with a high principal quantum number n is sensitive to Stark broadening and can be used as a density diagnostic. I ...

In a time of rising concern about climate change and pollution, the water quality of large lakes acts as an indicator of the health of the environment. To study the water quality at a large scale - up to several hundreds of kilometres - hyperspectral remot ...

This study presents calibrated vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopic measurements and filtered cyanogen violet band images for steel, cold graphite, and preheated graphite models at three reentry-relevant conditions in the X2 Expansion Tube. An analysis of thes ...

Controlling the phase of an electromagnetic field using plasmonic nanostructures provides a versatile way to manipulate light at the nanoscale. Broadband phase modulation has been demonstrated using inhomogeneous metasurfaces with different geometries; how ...

We propose and prove a theorem that allows the calculation of a class of functionals on Poisson point processes that have the form of expected values of sum-products of functions. In proving the theorem, we present a variant of the Campbell-Mecke theorem f ...

An ullazine unit was employed as a donor moiety in a donor-pi-acceptor (D-p-A) motif, employing the porphyrin macrocycle as a pi-system. Synthesis of this ullazine-porphyrin dyad containing sensitizer (SM63) was achieved and an investigation of the electro ...

Context. During February-March 2014, the MAGIC telescopes observed the high-frequency peaked BL Lac 1ES 1011 + 496 (z = 0.212) in flaring state at very-high energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV). The flux reached a level of more than ten times higher than any previous ...

Wireless channels are commonly affected by short-term fading and long-term fading (shadowing). The shadowing effects must be taken into account also when mobility is present in the wireless scenario. Using a composite fading model, the total channel capaci ...

Information theory has long pointed to the promise of physical layer cooperation in boosting the spectral efficiency of wireless networks. Yet, the optimum relaying strategy to achieve the network capacity has till date remained elusive. Recently however, ...

Linear and nonlinear spectroscopy techniques are widely used to study numerous important chemical and physical processes. However, the interpretation of these experimental spectra often becomes very complicated because a particular spectrum constitutes a m ...
