Algorithms are everywhere. The recipe for the frangipane cake is an algorithm. If all the listed ingredients are available and the cook is sufficiently deft, after a finite number of small, well-defined steps a delicious dessert will exit the oven. Now, wh ...

In this thesis, we contribute to the field of rehabilitation robotics by designing haptic-enabled tangible robot-based activities and exploring their added value for therapy and assistance. The research specifically focuses on the design and development of ...

Two complementary measurement systems – built upon an autonomous floating craft and a tethered balloon – for lake research and monitoring are presented. The autonomous vehicle was assembled on a catamaran for stability, and is capable of handling a variety ...

To navigate complex environments, animals must generate highly robust, yet flexible, locomotor behaviors. For example, walking speed must be tailored to the needs of a particular environment. Not only must animals choose the correct speed and gait, they mu ...

Computer-graders have been in regular use in the context of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). The automatic grading of programs presents an opportunity to assess and provide tailored feedback to large classes, while featuring at the same time a number o ...

Epidural electrical stimulation (EES) of the spinal cord and real-time processing of gait kinematics are powerful methods for the study of locomotion and the improvement of motor control after injury or in neurological disorders. Here, we describe equipmen ...

It is disclosed an apparatus for restoring voluntary control of locomotion in a subject suffering from a neuromotor impairment comprising a multidirectional trunk support system and a device for epidural electrical stimulation. The robotic interface is cap ...

Stroke, or cerebral-vascular accident is the leading cause of disabilities in the western world. It primarily affects mobility due to a degradation of principal motor functions such as balance and gait. This reduction of mobility directly impacts the spect ...

The invention refers to a method for analysing reflected light of an object. First a light angle distribution for a point of the object is determined. Then a plenoptic projector is controlled to illuminate the point of the object with the determined light ...

The results from a third structure determination by powder diffractometry (SDPD) round robin are discussed. From the 175 potential participants having downloaded the powder data, nine sent a total of 12 solutions (8 and 4 for samples I and 2, respectively, ...

Virtual Reality (VR) has nowadays become a very useful tool for therapists in the treatment of phobias. Indeed, it allows the simulation of scenarios which are difficult to reproduce in real life. It also allows for a situation to be repeated as much as on ...

A method and computer program for segmentation of an MRI image of tissue in presence of partial volume effects, include storing the MRI image in K-space representation as raw dataset, reconstructing N images, each represented by N sets of voxels and N sets ...

A temporal interface for a software component is a finite automaton that specifies the legal sequences of calls to functions that are provided by the component. We compare and evaluate three different algorithms for automatically extracting temporal interfac ...

A robust numerical algorithm for the calculation of multiple-scattering angular distributions of high-energy electrons and positrons is described. This algorithm implements the multiple-scattering theories of Goudsmit-Saunderson, which disregards energy lo ...

This paper describes the numerical simulation of the stator currents, flux and torque controls of an AC motor. The control priciple used is based on the orientation on the rotor flux. The originality of this simulation consists in the method used to simula ...
