A new method to automatically classify solid hydrometeors based on Multi-Angle Snowflake Camera (MASC) images is presented. For each individual image, the method relies on the calculation of a set of geometric and texture-based descriptors to simultaneousl ...

Location-based games have the power to transform specific environments into thematic learning experiences. However, their learning content is often managed only by developers and users cannot create their own content, or customize existing ones. This issue ...

This dissertation focuses on collective forms or organizing that through crowds or communities undertake production or innovation activities. Such organizations deviate from the traditional notions of hierarchy, authority, and control; however, they are st ...

Personalized ranking methods are at the core of many systems that learn to produce recommendations from user feedbacks. Their primary objective is to identify relevant items from very large vocabularies and to assist users in discovering new content. These ...

Image analysis workflows for Histology increasingly require the correlation and combination of measurements across several whole slide images. Indeed, for multiplexing, as well as multimodal imaging, it is indispensable that the same sample is imaged multi ...

In this paper we discuss how the combination of modern technologies in "big data" storage and management, knowledge representation and processing, cloud-based computation, and web technology can help the robotics community to establish and strengthen an op ...

Some non-linear behaviors in the dynamics of complex systems using the Scale Relativity Theory in the form of Multifractal Hydrodynamic Model are analyzed. By assimilating any complex system to a mathematical multifractal-type object, it is shown that the ...

Every day millions of people read Wikipedia. When navigating the vast space of available topics using hyperlinks, readers describe trajectories on the article network. Understanding these navigation patterns is crucial to better serve readers' needs and ad ...

Background: Wikipedia, the world's largest and most popular encyclopedia is an indispensable source of chemistry information. It contains among others also entries for over 15,000 chemicals including metabolites, drugs, agrochemicals and industrial chemica ...

Multimedia data with associated semantics is omnipresent in today’s social online platforms in the form of keywords, user comments and so forth. This article presents a statistical framework designed to infer knowledge in the imaging domain from the semant ...

Wikipedia, the largest encyclopedia ever created, is a global initiative driven by volunteer contributions. When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out and mobility restrictions ensued across the globe, it was unclear whether contributions to Wikipedia would decr ...

The amount of information available on the Web has been growing dramatically, raising the importance of techniques for searching the Web. Recently, Web Tables emerged as a model, which enables users to search for information in a structured way. However, e ...

We show in full generality the stability of optimal transport paths in branched transport: namely, we prove that any limit of optimal transport paths is optimal as well. This solves an open problem in the field (cf. Open problem 1 in the book Optimal trans ...

The upsurge in the number of web users over the last two decades has resulted in a significant growth of online information. This information growth calls for recommenders that personalize the in- formation proposed to each individual user. Nevertheless, p ...

We show that the finitely generated simple left orderable groups G(rho) constructed by the first two authors in Hyde and Lodha [Finitely generated infinite simple groups of homeomorphisms of the real line. Invent. Math. (2019), doi:10.1007/s00222-01900880- ...
