Background: Static posterior subluxation of the humeral head (SPSH) results in glenohumeral osteoarthritis. Treatment strategies for SPSH with or without resulting osteoarthritis remain challenging. There is growing interest in evaluating the rotator cuff ...

Being able to assess dog personality can be used to, for example, match shelter dogs with future owners, and personalize dog activities. Such an assessment typically relies on experts or psychological scales administered to dog owners, both of which are co ...

BackgroundOpen reduction and plate osteosynthesis are considered as a successful technique for the treatment of proximal humerus fracture (PHF) despite high complication rates. The objective of our study was to review the clinical outcome and complications ...

Inertial measurement units (IMU) are proven as efficient tools for swimming analysis by overcoming the limits of video-based systems application in aquatic environments. However, coaches still believe in the lack of a reliable and easy-to-use analysis syst ...

The present invention relates to a propulsion module (1) for generating wave-like motion in liquid. The propulsion module (1) comprises: a motor (7) for generating rotational motion; a set of conversion devices comprising a first conversion device (91) and ...

While alterations in spinal kinematics have been repeatedly observed in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP), their exact nature is still unknown. Specifically, there is a need for comprehensive assessments of multisegment spinal angles during daily- ...

Occurrence of cavitation in hydraulic machines is a challenging issue because it is often accompanied with loss of efficiency, noise emissions, vibrations, and erosion damages. Tip vortices, in particular, are an ideal site for the development of cavitatio ...

This study was aimed at investigating the intersegmental coordination of six older adults while managing unexpected slippages delivered during steady walking, and wearing an Active Pelvis Orthosis (APO). The APO was setup either to assist volunteers at the ...

The human shoulder is a complex musculoskeletal system. Knowledge about its kinematics and dynamics can help improve associated treatments. However, to date direct measurements of these quantities can be only granted through invasive investigations or expe ...

Inertial sensor drift is usually corrected on a single-sensor unit level. When multiple sensor units are used, mutual information from different units can be exploited for drift correction. This study introduces a method for a drift-reduced estimation of t ...

Stochastic behavior of an instrument is often analyzed by constructing the Allan (or wavelet) variance signatures from an error signal. For inertial sensors, such a signature is conveniently obtained by recording data at rest. The analysis of this signal w ...

We present an algorithm to estimate the rotational motion of an event camera. In contrast to traditional cameras, which produce images at a fixed rate, event cameras have independent pixels that respond asynchronously to brightness changes, with microsecon ...

For the purpose of gaining a deeper understanding of the relationship between external training load and health in competitive alpine skiing, an accurate and precise estimation of the athlete's kinematics is an essential methodological prerequisite. This s ...

Various studies have reported alterations of spinal kinematics in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) during gait. However, while recent findings stressed the importance of multi-segment analysis, most of prior gait studies modelled the lumbar spine ...

While alterations in spinal kinematics have been frequently reported in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP), a better characterization of the kinematics during functional activities is needed to improve our understanding and therapeutic solutions fo ...

In this work, we studied a combination of embedded magnetic measurement system in a knee prosthesis and wearable inertial sensors to estimate two knee joint rotations namely flexion-extension and internal-external rotations. The near optimal sensor configu ...

In this work, we present a magnetic measurement system for integration into smart knee prostheses to accurately measure the combination of two knee rotations; namely Flexion- Extension and Internal-External rotations. This measurement system consists of tw ...

In this work we investigated how to measure concurrently flexion-extension and internal-external rotations in a smart knee prosthesis. A configuration of magnetic sensors and magnets were designed and embedded in knee prostheses in which each sensor measur ...

The joint angles of multi-segment foot models have been primarily described using two mathematical methods: the joint coordinate system and the attitude vector. This study aimed to determine whether the angles obtained through these two descriptors are com ...

Inertial measurement units (IMUs) offer great opportunities to analyze segmental and joints kinematics. When combined with another motion capture system (MCS), for example, to validate new IMU-based applications or to develop mixed systems, it is necessary ...
