The current status of the ITER magnetics diagnostic is summarised. The various risks are discussed on the basis of when they could be present during ITER operation and appropriate mitigation is reviewed. An implementation risk or common mode operation fail ...

Fatigue damage accumulation and failure of steel reinforcement bars (rebars) is a stochastic process. Scatter can be influenced by the sensitivity of the short crack growth to the microstructural features, especially near the fatigue limit. This work inves ...

Composite materials are increasingly used in high volume automotive applications, usually as a replacement for assemblies of multiple metallic parts such as stamped and spot-welded steel sheets. One of the motivations is to reduce tooling and assembly cost ...

Although numerous positron emission tomography (PET) studies with ((8) F-fluoro-deoxyglucose) FDG have reported quantitative results on cerebral glucose kinetics and consumption, there is a large variation between the absolute values found in the literatur ...

Pharmaceuticals constitute an important environmental issue for receiving waters. A holistic approach, taking into consideration the sources of these compounds (hospitals, domestic use), discharges (wastewater effluent, combined sewer overflows) and relate ...

Traditionally, urban water services were characterised by local monopolies, where the incumbent was publicly-owned. This was explained by safety, health, economic, and technological reasons related to the sector's specificities. However, in spite of this, ...

This paper studies the potential gains of monetary and macro-prudential policies that lean against house-price and credit cycles. We rely on a model that features Borrowers and Savers and allows for over-borrowing induced by news-shock-driven cycles. We fi ...

A model study on the impact of climate change on snow cover and runoff has been conducted for the Swiss Canton of Graubünden. The model Alpine3D has been forced with the data from 35 Automatic Weather Stations in order to investigate snow and runoff dynami ...

The railway reforms introduced since the nineties tend to spread responsibilities among different actors involved in the management of the railway system. On the other side, the governmental organisations are forced to boost the productivity of their railw ...

For the realization of fusion as an energy source, the development of suitable materials is one of the most critical issues. The required material properties are in many aspects unique compared to the existing solutions, particularly the need for necessary ...

Mixed aluminum-chromium oxide coatings in the form of (Al,Cr)(2)O-3 solid solutions have attracted extensive research interest during the past years due to their successful use for challenging wear applications and the comparative ease of their moderate-te ...

In part I of this two-paper series, a method for the localization of an impact using dynamic strain signals from fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors is presented. In this paper, an inverse numerical-experimental method allowing to identify the damage based o ...

The conversion to more environmentally friendly refrigerants is of prime importance for refrigeration and air-conditioning industries. A first option for the substitution of the fluids which use was banned could be natural refrigerants, such as CO2, or HFC ...
