We investigate the use of laser-induced topological transformation for manufacturing multifocal lens arrays with arbitrary focal ranges. Cylindrical preforms manufactured by femtosecond laser and chemical etching are topologically transformed into plano-co ...

The non-ablative interaction of femtosecond laser pulses with fused silica leads to defects creation in the silica glass network. Here, we report on the correlation between defects and localized accelerated etching, that enables three-dimensional manufactu ...

Metasurfaces have opened the way for gaining control over the frequency and the polarization responses of electromagnetic waves. However, it is still challenging to control their electromagnetic angular response. Here, the potential of diffractive surfaces ...

This thesis presents the development, construction, and benchmark of an experimental platform that combines cold fermionic 6Li atoms with locally controllable light-matter interactions. To enable local control, a new device, the cavity-microscope, was crea ...

Dynamical perturbations modify the states of classical systems in surprising ways and give rise to important applications in science and technology. For example, Floquet engineering exploits the possibility of band formation in the frequency domain when a ...

Crystallization of amorphous layers has been demonstrated under various radically different laser-exposure conditions, including continuous wave (cw) and pulsed lasers. Here, we investigate the specific role of ionization in the crystallization of dielectr ...

Molecular quantum dynamics simulations are essential for understanding many fundamental phenomena in physics and chemistry. They often require solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for molecular nuclei, which is challenging even for medium-sized ...

Fields of technology as diverse as microwave filter construction, characterization of material interfaces with atomic precision, and detection of gravitational waves from astronomical sources employ mechanical resonators at their core. The utility of mecha ...

The millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency band is becoming very interesting over the past years because it provides the opportunity to operate using large bandwidths which are not available at lower frequencies. This enables new communication standards suppor ...

Light matter interactions such as extinction, reflection, and transmission can be described by classical optics. Dur-ing the past decades, research focused on a novel resonant extinction type called plasmonics that allows for en-hancement of both types of ...

We propose an all-optical switch based on an asymmetric directional coupler structure with epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) layer. The nonlinear optical properties the of ENZ layer are analyzed by hot-electron dynamics process, and the all-optical operating perform ...

Interactive mobile applications like web browsing and gaming are known to benefit significantly from low latency networking, as applications communicate with cloud servers and other users' devices. Emerging mobile channel standards have not met these needs ...

The NA62 experiment at CERN, designed to study the ultra-rare decay K+ -> pi(+) nu(nu) over bar, has also collected data in beam-dump mode. In this configuration, dark photons may be produced by protons dumped on an absorber and reach a decay volume beginn ...

Peer-to-peer (p2p) networks are not independent of their peers, and the network efficiency depends on peers contributing resources. Because shared resources are not free, this contribution must be rewarded. Peers across the network may share computation po ...

As a key unit of future high-throughput communications, optical analog to digital converter (OADC) with all-optical quantizer element that simultaneously possesses high resolution, large bandwidth and compact size is highly promising. A pending issue of co ...

The largest operating stellarator, Wendelstein 7-X, is of the quasi-isodynamic type. For this design to scale up to a fusion reactor, several criteria must be met, one of them being good fast ion confinement. The latter still has to be tested experimentall ...

The time-bandwidth limit is a mathematical tenet that affects all reciprocal resonators, stating that the product of the spectral bandwidth that can couple into a resonant system and its characteristic energy decay time is always equal to 1. Here, we devel ...

A search is performed for narrow resonances decaying to final states of two jets, with at least one jet ffiffioriginating from a b quark, in proton-proton collisions at p s = 13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb-1 collecte ...

This thesis aims at investigating the performance of figure-9 (figure-of-nine) optical fiber resonators as a practical solution for light storage, light generation and manipulation. The first part of the thesis focuses on a theoretical and experimental stu ...

Although graphene has met many of its initially predicted optoelectronic, thermal, and mechanical properties, photodetectors with large spectral bandwidths and extremely high frequency responses remain outstanding. In this work, we demonstrate a >500 gigah ...
