Niobium nitride (NbN) is a particularly promising material for quantum technology applications, as it shows the degree of reproducibility necessary for large-scale superconducting circuits. We demonstrate that resonators based on NbN thin films present a o ...

We present a framework for performing regression when both covariate and response are probability distributions on a compact and convex subset of

\R^d

. Our regression model is based on the theory of optimal transport and links the conditional Fr'echet m ...

In this thesis, we study the stochastic heat equation (SHE) on bounded domains and on the whole Euclidean space

\R^d.

We confirm the intuition that as the bounded domain increases to the whole space, both solutions become arbitrarily close to one another ...

We implement Euler bends to build compact high-Q Si3N4 racetrack microresonators, featuring a small footprint of only 0.21 mm(2) for 19.8 GHz FSR. We demonstrate that these multi-mode microresonators can be operated in the single-mode regime and generate a ...

In the nanoscale regime, flow behaviors for liquids show qualitative deviations from bulk expectations. In this work, we reveal by molecular dynamics simulations that plug flow down to nanoscale induces molecular friction that leads to a new flow structure ...

Multi-mode waveguides are ubiquitously used in integrated photonics. Although interaction among different spatial waveguide eigenmodes can induce novel nonlinear phenomena, spatial mode interaction is typically undesired. Adiabatic bends, such as Euler ben ...

A compact operations research (OR) model is proposed to analyse the prospects of meeting the Paris Agreement targets when direct air capture technologies can be used or not. The main features of the model are (i) the representation of the economy and energ ...

This paper presents results from 21 large-scale experiments on steel columns that examined their collapse behavior as related to steel moment resisting frames (MRFs). The test specimens included wide-flange and square hollow structural shapes (HSS) and wer ...

Photonic chip-based soliton microcombs have shown rapid progress and have already been used in many system-level applications. There has been substantial progress in realizing soliton microcombs that rely on compact laser sources, culminating in devices th ...

Smart health monitoring devices, known as Wireless Body Sensor Nodes (WBSN) are transforming today's health-care landscape, shifting it from traditional hospital-based methods toward more personalized approaches. Their demand is ever-increasing in the mode ...

Recent developments have enabled the practical realization of optical elements in which the polarization of light may vary spatially. We present an extension of Fourier optics-matrix Fourier optics-for understanding these devices and apply it to the design ...

Let M be a C-2-smooth Riemannian manifold with boundary and N a complete C-2-smooth Riemannian manifold. We show that each stationary p-harmonic mapping u: M -> N, whose image lies in a compact subset of N, is locally C-1,C-alpha for some alpha is an eleme ...

The system and method for used capsules (11), such as coffee capsules, with a lid and a capsule body, comprises at least cutting means (17) to cut the lid from the body, capturing means to extract the cut lid from the body, compacting means (12, 14) to com ...

The present work concerns the approximation of the solution map

S

associated to the parametric Helmholtz boundary value problem, i.e., the map which associates to each (real) wavenumber belonging to a given interval of interest the corresponding solution ...

A compact and broadband orthomode transducer (OMT) with two dual linearly polarized ports is reported here for the first time. The component is based on a combination of two ridged Boifot junctions through a series of power dividers that act as an embedded ...

Introduced 50 years ago by David Kazhdan, Kazhdan's Property (T) has quickly become an active research area in mathematics, with a lot of important results. A few years later, this property has been generalized to discrete group actions by Robert J. Zimmer ...

Micro-additive manufacturing has become an enabling technology in biomedical research as it allows for instance creating functional microstructures or studying cellular interactions at the microscale. Among the various manufacturing techniques laser-actuat ...

We investigate how probability tools can be useful to study representations of non-amenable groups. A suitable notion of "probabilistic subgroup" is proposed for locally compact groups, and is valuable to induction of representations. Nonamenable groups ad ...

The identification of reaction kinetics represents the main challenge in building models for reaction systems. The identification task can be performed via either simultaneous model identification (SMI) or incremental model identification (IMI), the latter ...

The LinoSPAD camera system is a modular, compact and versatile time-resolved camera system, combining a linear 256 high fill factor pixel CMOS SPAD (single-photon avalanche diode) sensor with an FPGA (field-programmable gate array) and USB 3.0 transceiver ...
