Additive Manufacturing also commonly referred as 3D printing has been given a lot of interest lately. Market is growing exponentially and the aim for obtaining more complex and ready-to use parts is emerging. All the 3D printing processes consist in buildi ...

At SMEAR II research station in Hyytiala, located in the Finnish boreal forest, the process of new particle formation and the role of ions has been investigated for almost 20 years near the ground and at canopy level. However, above SMEAR II, the vertical ...

Disclosed herein is a method for labelling a portion of a device, said method comprising the steps of providing a first substrate layer of a transparent or translucent material, depositing a first coloured material onto said first substrate layer in a labe ...

A composite multi-layer textile (1), comprising at least one nanofibre layer (11) with nanofibres with diameters below 100nm and one support layer (12) with microfibres with diameters below three microns, wherein the layers (11, 12) were produced by electr ...

Opalinus Clay is the shale currently under investigation as the host formation for geological radioactive waste disposal in Switzerland. Its hydromechanical response has been widely studied, and the experimental results show a range of values whose dispers ...

When a computational task tolerates a relaxation of its specification or when an algorithm tolerates the effects of noise in its execution, hardware, system software, and programming language compilers or their runtime systems can trade deviations from cor ...

The present invention concerns a single crystalline diamond optical element production method. The method includes the steps of: ‐ providing a single crystalline diamond substrate or layer; ‐ applying a mask layer to the single crystalline diamond substrat ...

The microscopic description of the interface of colloidal particles in solution is essential to understand and predict the stability of these systems, as well as their chemical and electrochemical reactivity. However, this description often relies on the u ...

The present disclosure concerns an excitonic device including at least one heterostructure comprising or consisting solely of a first two-dimensional material or layer and a second two-dimensional material or layer. The at least one heterostructure being c ...

Out of plane instability of reinforced concrete walls is a failure mechanism observed rather recently following the earthquakes in Chile (2010) and New Zealand (2011). Global out of plane instability is a phenomenon that may occur in thin walls, subjected ...

In inboard-limited plasmas, the Scrape-Off Layer (SOL) shows two regions: the near SOL, extending a few mm from the Last Closed Flux Surface (LCFS), characterized by a steep gradient of the parallel heat flux radial profile, and a far SOL, typically some cm w ...

Stably stratified turbulent flows over an unbounded, smooth, planar sloping surface at high Grashof numbers are examined using direct numerical simulations ( DNS). Four sloping angles ( alpha = 15 degrees; 30 degrees; 60 degrees and 90 degrees) and three G ...

The present invention aims at providing a method to produce modified images of a human face while removing all defects, such as such as pigmentation irregularities (e.g., moles, freckles), irritation, roughness, or wrinkles This is achieved thanks to a met ...

To strengthen a reinforced concrete (RC) slab with deficient shear resistance, it is proposed to add to the top of the slab a 25-50 mm thick layer of ultra-high performance fibre reinforced cement-based composite (UHPFRC) with small diameter rebars (R-UHPF ...

The present invention relates to a cantilever or membrane comprising a body and an elongated beam attached to the body. The elongated beam includes a first layer comprising a first material, a second layer comprising a second material having an elastic mod ...

A computing system that uses a Scale-Out NUMA (“soNUMA”) architecture, programming model, and/or communication protocol provides for low-latency, distributed in-memory processing. Using soNUMA, a programming model is layered directly on top of a NUMA memor ...

The upcoming JPEG XT is under development for High Dynamic Range (HDR) image compression. This standard encodes a Low Dynamic Range (LDR) version of the HDR image generated by a Tone-Mapping Operator (TMO) using the conventional JPEG coding as a base layer ...

Adhesion layers, required to stabilize metallic nanostngtures, dramatically deteriorate the performances of plasmonic sensors, by severely damping the plasmon modes. In this article, we show that these detrimental effects critically depend on the overlap o ...

Large-eddy simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of the surface boundary condition downwind of a rough-to-smooth surface transition. Two types of boundary conditions are tested: (1) The standard formulation based on local application of the ...
