Disorder at etched edges of graphene quantum dots (GQD) enables random all-to-all interactions between localized charges in partially filled Landau levels, providing a potential platform to realize the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model. We use quantum Hall edg ...

We analyze the quantum antiferromagnet on the maple leaf lattice in the presence of a magnetic field. Starting from its exact dimer ground state and for a magnetic field strength of the order of the local dimer spin-exchange coupling, we perform a strong-c ...

We provide a theoretical description of dynamical heterogeneities in glass-forming liquids, based on the premise that relaxation occurs via local rearrangements coupled by elasticity. In our framework, the growth of the dynamical correlation length e and o ...

The subject of the present work is discovery and in-depth characterization of a new class of functional materials. Tuning of the bond polarity and orbital occupation with a goal of establishing balance between localization and delocalization of electrons - ...

EuMnSb2 is a candidate topological material which can be tuned towards a Weyl semimetal, but there are differing reports for its antiferromagnetic (AFM) phases. The coupling of bands dominated by pure Sb layers hosting topological fermions to Mn and Eu mag ...

The absence of stray fields, their insensitivity to external magnetic fields, and ultrafast dynamics make antiferromagnets promising candidates for active elements in spintronic devices. Here, we demonstrate manipulation of the Neel vector in the metallic ...

The Jahn-Teller (JT) effect involves the ions M with a degenerate electronic state distorting the corner-sharing MO6 octahedra to lift the degeneracy, inducing strong coupling of electrons to lattice, and mediating the exotic properties in perovskite oxide ...

We present temperature-dependent (from room temperature to 80 degrees C) absorption spectra of Au/SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) (core diameter: similar to 25 nm) in water in the range from 1.5 to 4.5 eV, which spans the localized surface plasmon reso ...

This work presents a novel InGaAs/InP SPAD structure fabricated using a selective area growth (SAG) method. The surface topography of the selectively grown film deposited within the 70 mu m diffusion apertures is used to engineer the Zn diffusion profile t ...

The creep motion of domain walls driven by external fields in magnetic thin films is described by universal features related to the underlying depinning transition. One key parameter in this description is the roughness exponent characterizing the growth o ...

In this Account, we describe the challenges and promising applications of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging and spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures. Our work focuses on two areas of application: the delay of electron-beam-induced degradatio ...

Strong coupling of electromagnetic cavity fields with antiferromagnetic spin waves in hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) is achieved above room temperature. A cube of hematite is placed in a metallic tube and the transmission is measured, using a continuous-wave terah ...

IrMn(3)thin films were experimentally characterized by thermoelectric power and resistivity as a function of temperature and sample thickness. The Seebeck coefficient shows strong temperature dependence and the value increases with temperature up to 350 K. ...

Recent theory proposes that edge dislocations in random body-centered cubic (BCC) high entropy alloys have high barriers for motion, conveying high strengths up to high temperatures. Here, the energy barriers for edge motion are computed for two model allo ...

The thermoelectric and transport properties of MgO/Co2MnGa/Pd stacks with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy were measured. For a nominal 3.3 nm Co2MnGa thickness, the anomalous Nernst coefficient and the Nernst angle at room temperature were found to be 0. ...

Anomalous Hall and anomalous Nernst properties of thin MgO/Co-2Fe0.4Mn0.6Si/Pd stacks with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) revealed the presence of the magnetic proximity effect (MPE) in the Pd layer. The MPE is evidenced by nanometer range thickne ...

Scale-invariant magnetic anisotropy in RuCl(3)has been revealed through measurements of its magnetotropic coefficient, providing evidence for a high degree of exchange frustration that favours the formation of a spin liquid state. In RuCl3, inelastic neutr ...

The discovery of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in bulk metallic antiferromagnets (AFMs) motivates the search of the same phenomenon in two-dimensional (2D) systems, where a quantized anomalous Hall conductance can, in principle, be observed. Here we pres ...

Most digital information today is encoded in the magnetization of ferromagnetic domains. The demand for ever-increasing storage space fuels continuous research for energy-efficient manipulation of magnetism at smaller and smaller length scales. Writing a b ...

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted increasing attention over the last decade owing to their remarkable mechanical, electrical and optical properties. Following the groundbreaking discovery of graphene, a plethora of other atomically-thin materia ...
