Natural musculoskeletal systems combine soft tissues and rigid structures to achieve diverse mechanical behaviors that are both adaptive and precise. Inspired by these systems, we propose a programming method for designing bioinspired soft-rigid robotic st ...

The synthesis and X-ray structural study of the new family of compounds Ba4Fe4ClO9.5-x with tunable structural modulation are reported. The framework of the structure has the Ba2Fe4O9.5-x composition, with open hexagonal channels extending along the c-axis ...

Knowledge-based approaches use the statistics collected from protein data-bank structures to estimate effective interaction potentials between amino acid pairs. Empirical relations are typically employed that are based on the crucial choice of a reference ...

Recently, hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) has become an interesting platform for quantum optics due to its peculiar defect-related luminescence properties. Concomitantly, hBN was established as the ideal insulating support for realizing 2D materials devices, ...

Development of novel materials with advanced properties is one of the main research directions of chemistry. New substances are not only crucial for many current technological applications but also should satisfy the needs of tomorrow. Industry often requi ...

The flexibility of the ZIF-8 aperture, which inhibits a molecular cutoff of 3.4 angstrom, can be reduced by rapid heat treatment to obtain CO2-selective membranes. However, the early stages of the structural, morphological, and chemical changes responsible ...

The nature of the "forbidden" local- and long-range polar order in nominally nonpolar paraelectric phases of ferroelectric materials has been an open question since the discovery of ferroelectricity in oxide perovskites (ABO3). A currently considered model ...

The present invention relates to a plasmonic biosensor system. The system includes a nano-hole array device comprising at least one nano-hole array (NHA) including at least one or a plurality of nano holes (NH), an image sensor (A3) for capturing light pro ...

In insulating materials with ordered magnetic spiral phases, ferroelectricity can emerge owing to the breaking of inversion symmetry. This property is of both fundamental and practical interest, particularly with a view to exploiting it in low-power electr ...
