Commitment is a key primitive which resides at the heart of several cryptographic protocols. Noisy channels can help realize information-theoretically secure commitment schemes; however, their imprecise statistical characterization can severely impair such ...

The Supersingular Isogeny Diffie-Hellman (SIDH) protocol has been the main and most efficient isogeny-based encryption protocol, until a series of breakthroughs led to a polynomial-time key-recovery attack. While some countermeasures have been proposed, th ...

Dampers are devices that reduce delay jitter in the context of time-sensitive networks, by delaying packets for the amount written in packet headers. Jitter reduction is required by some real-time applications; beyond this, dampers have the potential to so ...

In self-encryption, a device encrypts some piece of information for itself to decrypt in the future. We are interested in security of self-encryption when the state occasionally leaks. Applications that use self-encryption include cloud storage, when a cli ...

Since the invention of the pendulum clock by Christiaan Huygens in 1657, precision timekeepers have been regulated by oscillators. Although the pendulum is not an isochronous oscillator, its introduction as a time basis for clock regulation led to a signif ...

Most of the cryptographic protocols that we use frequently on the internet are designed in a fashion that they are not necessarily suitable to run in constrained environments. Applications that run on limited-battery, with low computational power, or area ...

Flow reshaping is used in time-sensitive networks (as in the context of IEEE TSN and IETF Detnet) in order to reduce burstiness inside the network and to support the computation of guaranteed latency bounds. This is performed using per-flow regulators (suc ...

Embedded and cyber-physical systems are pervading all aspects of our lives, including sensitive and critical ones. As a result, they are an alluring target for cyber attacks. These systems, whose implementation is often based on reconfigurable hardware, ar ...

Remote Procedure Calls are widely used to connect datacenter applications with strict tail-latency service level objectives in the scale of µs. Existing solutions utilize streaming or datagram-based transport protocols for RPCs that impose overheads and li ...

The emerging measurement technology of phasor measurement units (PMUs) makes it possible to estimate the state of electrical grids in real-time, thus opening the way to new protection and control applications. PMUs rely on precise time synchronization, the ...

Digital silicon photo-multipliers (SiPMs) have emerged in the recent past as a viable low cost alternative to photomultiplier tubes in positron emission tomography systems, providing multiple timestamps, energy and scintillation coordinates at high spatial ...

Distance-bounding protocols allow a verifier to both authenticate a prover and evaluate whether the latter is located in his vicinity. These protocols are of particular interest in contactless systems, e.g. electronic payment or access control systems, whi ...

The paper discusses the influence of the time synchronization technique on the synchrophasor estimation accuracy in modern Phasor Measurement Units (PMU). Specifically, we make reference to Global Positioning System (GPS), Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and ...

In our daily lives, people or devices frequently need to learn their location for many reasons as some services depend on the absolute location or the proximity. The outcomes of positioning systems can have critical effects e.g., on military, emergency. Th ...

Within the context of time dissemination techniques for power systems applications, the paper discusses the use of the White Rabbit (WR) protocol for synchrophasor networks. Specifically, the paper presents a Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) integrating the W ...

The paper considers the problem of detecting cyber-attacks occurring in communication networks typically used in the secondary control layer of DC microgrids. The proposed distributed methodology allows for scalable monitoring of a microgrid and is able to ...

An active distribution network (ADN) is an electrical-power distribution network that implements a real-time monitoring and control of the electrical resources and the grid. Effective monitoring and control is realised by deploying a large number of sensin ...

The paper considers the problem of detecting cyber-attacks occurring in communication networks for distributed control schemes. A distributed methodology is proposed to detect the presence of malicious attacks aimed at compromising the stability of large-s ...

In recent work on open, privacy-preserving, accountable surveillance, we have proposed the use of cryptographic protocols that enable law-enforcement and intelligence agencies to obtain actionable information about targeted users of mass-communication syst ...
