Gyrokinetic codes in plasma physics need outstanding computational resources to solve increasingly complex problems, requiring the effective exploitation of cutting-edge HPC architectures. This paper focuses on the enabling of ORB5, a state-of-the-art, fir ...

Modern GPUs suffer from cache contention due to the limited cache size that is shared across tens of concurrently running warps. To increase the per-warp cache size prior techniques proposed warp throttling which limits the number of active warps. Warp thr ...

Control-Flow Hijacking attacks are the dominant attack vector against C/C++ programs. Control-Flow Integrity (CFI) solutions mitigate these attacks on the forward edge, i.e., indirect calls through function pointers and virtual calls. Protecting the backwa ...

The capability to process high-resolution videos in real-time is becoming more important in a wide variety of applications such as autonomous vehicles, virtual reality or intelligent surveillance systems. The high-accuracy and complex video processing algo ...

The effective bandwidth of the FPGA external memory, usually DRAM, is extremely sensitive to the access pattern. Nonblocking caches that handle thousands of outstanding misses (miss-optimized memory systems) can dynamically improve bandwidth utilization wh ...

Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) employ large register files to accommodate all active threads and accelerate context switching. Unfortunately, register files are a scalability bottleneck for future GPUs due to long access latency, high power consumption, ...

Dynamically-scheduled elastic circuits generated by High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tools are inherently out-of-order, following the flow of data rather than the evolution of an instruction pointer. Components of the circuit which access memory need to be conne ...

This multidisciplinary research work aims to investigate the optimized information extraction from signals or data volumes and to develop tailored hardware implementations that trade-off the complexity of data acquisition with that of data processing, conc ...

A system and method of coupling a Branch Target Buffer (BTB) content of a BTB with an instruction cache content of an instruction cache. The method includes: tagging a plurality of target buffer entries that belong to branches within a same instruction blo ...

In this paper, the hardware acceleration of a tone-mapping algorithm for High-Dynamic-Range image processing is presented. Starting from the C++ source code, High-Level Synthesis has been performed using Xilinx SDSoC for a Xilinx Zynq SoC device. After an ...

Virtual memory (VM) is a crucial abstraction in modern computer systems at any scale, from handheld devices to datacenters. VM provides programmers the illusion of an always sufficiently large and linear memory, making programming easier. Although the core ...
