Snow transport favors strong sublimation and may therefore have an important effect on the surface mass balance of polar and high‐mountain regions. Recently, small‐scale models such as large‐eddy simulation (LES) with Lagrangian snow particles have improve ...

The Eurocode 2 for the design of concrete structures (EN1992-1-1:2004) is undergoing a revision that will lead to the publication of the second generation of this code to be used across all CEN member countries. Therefore, the impact of the code will reach ...

High-tech industries power the modern digital world, but their supply chains are particularly vulnerable to geopolitical and economic disruption. Urgent action is needed to improve supply-chain resilience. ...

Federated learning is a semi-distributed algorithm, where a server communicates with multiple dispersed clients to learn a global model. The federated architecture is not robust and is sensitive to communication and computational overloads due to its one-m ...

Objective. Peripheral nerve interfaces have the potential to restore sensory, motor, and visceral functions. In particular, intraneural interfaces allow targeting deep neural structures with high selectivity, even if their performance strongly depends upon ...

Chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) are synthetic, transmembrane proteins that trigger immune cell signaling following their engagement. They have been first utilized in T cells and later in natural killer (NK) cells to redirect their cytotoxicity toward a s ...

Structural engineers today are still educated mainly to design new structures. This ignores the fact that structures already exist and need to be maintained. Students are thus often ill-equipped to deal with maintenance and preservation of existing structu ...

Speech representations which are robust to pathology-unrelated cues such as speaker identity information have been shown to be advantageous for automatic dysarthric speech classification. A recently proposed technique to learn speaker identity-invariant re ...

Anomaly Detection systems based on Machine and Deep learning are the most promising solutions to detect cyberattacks in the industry. However, these techniques are vulnerable to adversarial attacks that downgrade prediction performance. Several techniques ...

Perception and interpretation of the terrain is essential for robot navigation, particularly in off-road areas, where terrain characteristics can be highly variable. When planning a path, features such as the terrain gradient and roughness should be consid ...

As proposed in several design standards for structural concrete, including Eurocode 2 (EN:1992-1-1:2004) and fib's Model Code 2010, the shear design of slender members with shear reinforcement can be performed by means of consistent models based on suitabl ...

High-level synthesis is a mature Electronics Design Automation (EDA) technology for building hardware design in a short time. It produces automatically HDL code for FPGAs out of C/C++, bridging the gap from algorithm to hardware. Nevertheless, sometimes th ...

Emerging applications in new generation electronic devices require effective heat removal and thermal man-agement. In this regard, boiling is a phase change phenomenon capable of dissipating a large amount of heat compared to the sensible heat. In this stu ...

Current speech recognition architectures perform very well from the point of view of machine learning, hence user interaction. This suggests that they are emulating the human biological system well. We investigate whether the inference can be inverted to p ...

The world's cities are facing various challenges such as rapid urbanization, poverty, climate change, pollution, sustainable and inclusive development. Building futuristic smart and sustainable cities is proving to be a response to these challenges. Recent ...

Gate-lag induced trapping effects due to donor-like surface traps located in the access regions between the electrodes of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs are investigated through TCAD transient simulations. The effects of variation in trap energy level and temperature on ...

We consider low run-time complexity power management in distribution grids with renewable energy sources (RESs) and batteries, where forecasts are unavailable. We propose iterative Lyapunov Real-time Control (iLypRC), a fast online algorithm, which does no ...

Enriched environments and tools are believed to promote grasp rehabilitation after stroke. We designed S2, an interactive grasp rehabilitation system consisting of smart objects, custom orthoses for selective grasp constraining, and an electrode array syst ...

This letter proposes the application of a hybrid numerical technique to two cases of interest in the space business: the reallocation of radiators and scatters on satellite platforms; and the analysis of antennas for mobile communications. It is based on t ...
