In contrast to the well-studied 1-vinylcyclobu- tanols, the reactivity of 3-vinylazetidin-3-ols 1 and 3- vinyloxetan-3-ols 2 under transition metal catalysis remains largely unexplored. We report herein their unique reactivity under dual palladium and acid ...

Ynolates or ketenyl anions, [RCCO]-, are negatively charged reactive intermediates, which can be generated in situ and used for divergent chemical transformations. Ynolates can react either at the oxygen or carbon centres or across the C-C triple bond, mak ...

Benzocyclobutenes (BCBs) are highly valuable compounds in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and materials science. However, catalytic modular synthesis of functionalized BCBs from easily accessible starting materials remains limited. We report herein ...

Alkene difunctionalization featuring an intramolecular carbometallation step has been developed into a powerful transformation in organic synthesis. The 5-exo-trig carbometallation is in general highly favored over the alternative 6-endo-trig cyclization. ...

Alkynes and nitriles are valuable building blocks in organic synthesis and also have multiple applications in chemical biology and materials science. Due to the high availability of tertiary alcohols, developing methods for their conversion into alkynes an ...

Over the past twenty years, photochemical transformations have gained in importance in organic chemistry. Indeed, the development of photocatalysts has allowed the use of visible light as an energy source for chemical transformations. More specifically, ph ...

By taking a journey through the events that happened during Professor David A. Evans' lifetime in the context of chemical synthesis and drug discovery, this in-focus article reflects upon Professor Evans' lifelong scientific and padegogical impacts on the ...

A few months before the COVID-19 pandemic, Pierre Vogel and Kendall N. Houk published with a new textbook Wiley-VCH, "Organic Chemistry: Theory, Reactivity, and Mechanisms in Modern Synthesis", with a foreword from the late Roberts H. Grubbs. The book demo ...

Compounds rich in sp(3)-hybridized carbons are desirable in drug discovery. Nickel-catalyzed hydrocarbonation of alkenes is a potentially efficient method to synthesize these compounds. By using abundant, readily available, and stable alkenes as pro-nucleo ...

The art of natural product total synthesis is closely associated with two major determinants: the development/application of novel chemical reactions and the innovation in strategic use of classic organic reactions. While purposely seeking/applying a new s ...

This review presents an account of the palladium-catalyzed functionalizations of alkenes and alkynes developed at the Laboratory of Catalysis and Organic Synthesis (LCSO). Starting from the intramolecular oxy- and aminoalkynylation of alkenes, tethered met ...

Carboxylic acids are one of the most suitable starting materials for synthesis. They are readily available and therefore inexpensive, stable and non-toxic. Many carboxylic acids can be obtained directly from natural resources, thus avoiding the extraction ...

Alkynyl sulfoxides are important building blocks with a unique reactivity in organic chemistry, but only a few reliable methods have been reported to synthesize them. A novel route to access alkynyl sulfoxides is reported herein by using ethynyl benziodoxo ...

Among the fundamental chemical transformations in organic synthesis, rearrangement has been recognized as powerful and reliable reactions for the construction of carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bonds. Benefiting from the advance of the novel catalytic s ...

Organic chemistry is essential for the development of a modern society and technical progress requires the continuous development of synthetic methodologies Novel, efficient, selective and flexible protocols are employed to access complex frameworks from s ...

The chemistry of aromatic triazenes is well known, and has been explored for more than a century. These compounds have emerged as very useful intermediates, because of their unique reactivity. This functionality can notably be used to access many other fun ...

Esters are one of the most common functional groups in natural and synthetic products, and the one-step conversion of the ester group into other functional groups is an attractive strategy in organic synthesis. Direct amidation of esters is particularly ap ...

Silver nitrate-catalyzed reaction of methyl α,α-disubstituted α-isocyanoacetates with primary amines afforded 3,5,5-trisubstituted imidazolones in good to excellent yields. A silver salt-catalyzed insertion of the isocyano group into the N−H bond of the am ...

Vicinal amino alcohols and diamines are privileged motifs in organic chemistry. As such, they have been targets of choice for exploring and developing novel and more efficient strategies in organic synthesis. In this context, the difunctionalization of ole ...

Alkene functionality can be found in the majority of natural products, drugs, catalysts and organic materials. Therefore, methods of C-C double bond formation constitute a cornerstone of organic synthesis. Selective formation of either (Z)- or (E)-isomer i ...
