On the Reduction of Points on Abelian Varieties and Tori

Résumé

Let G be the product of an abelian variety and a torus defined over a number field K. Let R-1, ..., R-n be points in G(K). Let l be a rational prime, and let a(1), ..., a(n) be nonnegative integers. Consider the set of primes p of K satisfying the following condition: the l-adic valuation of the order of (R-i mod p) equals a(i) for every i = 1, ..., n. We show that this set is either finite or has a positive natural density. We characterize the n-tuples a(1), ..., a(n) for which the density is positive. More generally, we study the l-part of the reduction of the points.

Variété abélienne

En mathématiques, et en particulier, en géométrie algébrique et géométrie complexe, une variété abélienne A est une variété algébrique projective qui est un groupe algébrique. La condition de est l'équivalent de la compacité pour les variétés différentielles ou analytiques, et donne une certaine rigidité à la structure. C'est un objet central en géométrie arithmétique. Une variété abélienne sur un corps k est un groupe algébrique A sur k, dont la variété algébrique sous-jacente est projective, connexe et géométriquement réduite.

Corps de nombres

En mathématiques, un corps de nombres algébriques (ou simplement corps de nombres) est une extension finie K du corps Q des nombres rationnels. En particulier, c'est une extension algébrique : tous les éléments de K sont des nombres algébriques, dont le degré divise le degré de l'extension. C'est aussi une extension séparable car Q est de caractéristique nulle donc parfait. Tout sous-corps de C engendré par un nombre fini de nombres algébriques est un corps de nombres.

Dual abelian variety

In mathematics, a dual abelian variety can be defined from an abelian variety A, defined over a field K. To an abelian variety A over a field k, one associates a dual abelian variety Av (over the same field), which is the solution to the following moduli problem. A family of degree 0 line bundles parametrized by a k-variety T is defined to be a line bundle L on A×T such that for all , the restriction of L to A×{t} is a degree 0 line bundle, the restriction of L to {0}×T is a trivial line bundle (here 0 is the identity of A).
