The proliferation of phasor measurement units (PMUs) presents new challenges in archiving and processing large amounts of synchrophasor data which necessitates advanced data compression methods. This paper proposes a singular value decomposition (SVD)-base ...

Deep learning algorithms are responsible for a technological revolution in a variety oftasks including image recognition or Go playing. Yet, why they work is not understood.Ultimately, they manage to classify data lying in high dimension – a feat generical ...

In this work we introduce a manifold learning-based method for uncertainty quantification (UQ) in systems describing complex spatiotemporal processes. Our first objective is to identify the embedding of a set of high-dimensional data representing quantitie ...

In this work, we present a simple biometric indexing scheme which is binning and retrieving cancelable deep face templates based on frequent binary patterns. The simplicity of the proposed approach makes it applicable to unprotected as well as protected, i ...

Contextual adaptation of ASR can be very beneficial for multi-accent and often noisy Air-Traffic Control (ATC) speech. Our focus is call-sign recognition, which can be used to track conversations of ATC operators with individual airplanes. We developed a t ...

The use of drones in search and rescue (SAR) missions can be very cognitively demanding. Since high levels of cognitive workload can negatively affect human performance, there is a risk of compromising the mission and leading to failure with catastrophic o ...

Deep convolutional neural networks have shown remarkable results on face recognition (FR). Despite their significant progress, the performance of current face recognition techniques is often assessed in benchmarks under not always realistic conditions. The ...

In Bourlard and Kamp (Biol Cybern 59(4):291-294, 1998), it was theoretically proven that autoencoders (AE) with single hidden layer (previously called "auto-associative multilayer perceptrons") were, in the best case, implementing singular value decomposit ...

The number of materials or molecules that can be created by combining different chemical elements in various proportions and spatial arrangements is enormous. Computational chemistry can be used to generate databases containing billions of potential struct ...

We give an information-theoretic interpretation of Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) via (relaxed) Wyner's common information. CCA permits to extract from two high-dimensional data sets low-dimensional descriptions (features) that capture the commonalit ...

Morphing attacks are a threat to biometric systems where the biometric reference in an identity document can be altered. This form of attack presents an important issue in applications relying on identity documents such as border security or access control ...

In this paper, we propose and compare personalized models for Productive Engagement (PE) recognition. PE is defined as the level of engagement that maximizes learning. Previously, in the context of robot-mediated collaborative learning, a framework of prod ...

This paper introduces Memory-limited Online Subspace Estimation Scheme (MOSES) for both estimating the principal components of streaming data and reducing its dimension. More specifically, in various applications such as sensor networks, the data vectors a ...

Seminal works on graph neural networks have primarily targeted semi-supervised node classification problems with few observed labels and high-dimensional signals. With the development of graph networks, this setup has become a de facto benchmark for a sign ...

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), as the assistance of speech communication between pilots and air-traffic controllers, can significantly reduce the complexity of the task and increase the reliability of transmitted information. ASR application can lead ...

We propose a deep neural network based image-to-image translation for domain adaptation, which aims at finding translations between image domains. Despite recent GAN based methods showing promising results in image-to-image translation, they are prone to f ...
