Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays are essential tools in biophotonics, optical ranging and sensing, and quantum optics. However, their small number of pixels, low quantum efficiency, and small fill factor have so far hindered their use for practi ...

An integrated circuit fabricated using industry-standard 40 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology can combine silicon quantum devices, digital addressing and analogue multiplexed dispersive readout electronics. ...

Recent years have seen spectacular developments in the domain of nano-optics. Alongside the well-known techniques of super-resolution microscopy progress in nanofabrication has enabled important improvements in the fields of optical imaging and spectros ...

Strong quantum correlations in matter are responsible for some of the most extraordinary properties of materials, from magnetism to high-temperature superconductivity, but their integration in quantum devices requires a strong, coherent coupling with photo ...

This thesis is dedicated to the engineering of the emission energy of quantum dots embedded in core-shell GaAs-AlGaAs nanowires. The goal is to redshift the quantum-dot emission energy in resonance with a gas of Rb atoms. Segregation processes on the nanow ...

Optical nanocavities enhance light-matter interaction due to their high quality factors (Q) and small modal volumes (V). The control of light-matter interaction lies at the heart of potential applications for integrated optical circuits, including optical ...

Recent studies have shown that direct nerve stimulation can be used to provide sensory feedback to hand amputees. The intensity of the elicited sensations can be modulated using the amplitude or frequency of the injected stimuli. However, a comprehensive c ...

In this presentation, we wish to provide an overview of the spectral features for the self-adjoint Hamiltonian of the three-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator perturbed by either a single attractive delta-interaction centered at the origin or by a p ...

This thesis is dedicated to the discovery and progressive study of quantum emitters embedded in the shell of coaxial gallium arsenide/ aluminum gallium arsenide nanowires. The bottom-up core/shell nanowires were grown in a molecular beam epitaxy machine. D ...

Quantum dots (QDs) embedded in nanowires represent one of the most promising technologies for applications in quantum photonics. Self-assembled bottom-up fabrication is attractive to overcome the technological challenges involved in a top-down approach, bu ...

We report on the observation of multiple polariton modes, originating from an electronic coupling between quantum wells inside a planar microcavity. A series of excitonic transitions are measured for a bare quantum well stack and are precisely identified t ...

Reaction of Ln(III) with a tetrakis(diketone) ligand H4L [1,1?-(4,4?-(2,2-bis((4-(4,4,4-trifluoro-3-oxobutanoyl) phenoxy)methyl)propane-1,3-diyl)bis(oxy)bis(4,1-phenylene))bis(4,4,4-trifluorobutane-1,3-dione)] gives new podates which, according to mass spe ...

A quantum dot is a semiconductor nanostructure that confines the motion of conduction band electrons and valence band holes in all three spatial directions, thus creating fully discrete energy levels. The confinement in the InAs/GaAs material system is gen ...

The properties of semiconductors heterostructures of nanoscopic dimensions change from that of bulk material according to the rules of quantum mechanics. The planar quantum wells (QWs) are widely used in various diode and laser devices thanks to the relati ...

The aim of this thesis is to supply a theoretical study of the interaction mechanisms between quantum dots beyond the simple picture of macroatoms. Coulomb interaction between excitons, exciton-phonon interaction as well as radiative interaction are, in pa ...

Self-assembled quantum-dots (QDs) represent a distributed ensemble of zero dimensional structures with a near-singular density of states. Implemented as the active medium in a diode laser their unique properties lead to improved and often novel characteris ...

There has been a lack of quick, simple and reliable methods for determination of nanoparticle size. An investigation of the size of hydrophobic (CdSe) and hydrophilic (CdSe/ZnS) quantum dots was performed by using the maximum position of the corresponding ...

Quantum dots (QDs) of high symmetry (e.g., C3v) have degenerate bright exciton states, unlike QDs of C2v symmetry, making them intrinsically suitable for the generation of entangled photon pairs. Deviations from C3v symmetry are detected in real QDs by pol ...

The exceptional performance of self-assembled Quantum Dot (QD) materials renders them extremely appealing for their use as optical communications devices. As lasers, they feature reduced and temperature independent threshold current and proper emission wav ...

Self-assembled quantum-dots (QDs) represent a distributed ensemble of zero dimensional structures, each presenting a near-singular density of states. The QD size, shape, areal density and optical properties depend on growth parameters, such as growth tempe ...
