We report the formation of arbitrary photoconductive patterns made of tellurium (Te) nanocrystals by exposing a tellurite (TeO2-based) glass to femtosecond laser pulses. During this process, Te/TeO2-glass nanocomposite interfaces with photoconductive prope ...

Early works(1) and recent advances in thin-film lithium niobate (LiNbO3) on insulator have enabled low-loss photonic integrated circuits(2,3), modulators with improved half-wave voltage(4,5), electro-optic frequency combs(6) and on-chip electro-optic devic ...

We present a narrow-linewidth second-harmonic source based on a laser diode injection locked to an optically poled silicon nitride microresonator. The device is a compact, highly-coherent dual-wavelength source, with high conversion efficiency up to 280%/W ...

Combining optical gain in direct-bandgap III-V materials with tunable optical feedback offered by advanced photonic integrated circuits is key to chip-scale external-cavity lasers (ECL), offering wideband tunability along with low optical linewidths. Exter ...

Thermal motion of a room-temperature mechanical resonator typically dominates the quantum backaction of its position measurement. This is a longstanding barrier for exploring cavity optomechanics at room temperature. In order to enter the quantum regime of ...

Stable and tunable integrated lasers are fundamental building blocks for applications from spectroscopy to imaging and communication. Here the authors present a narrow linewidth hybrid photonic integrated laser with low frequency noise and fast linear wave ...

This thesis aims at investigating the performance of figure-9 (figure-of-nine) optical fiber resonators as a practical solution for light storage, light generation and manipulation. The first part of the thesis focuses on a theoretical and experimental stu ...

Surface-based measurement substrate including: • - at least one optical cavity layer (7); • - a first optical mirror (9) and a second optical mirror (11), the first and second optical mirrors enclosing the optical cavity layer and defining an optical cavit ...

Coherent ranging, also known as frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) laser-based light detection and ranging (lidar)(1) is used for long-range three-dimensional distance and velocimetry in autonomous driving(2,3). FMCW lidar maps distance to frequenc ...

We experimentally investigate the Lamb coupling constant C in InGaAlAs Quantum Wells active medium. An Optically-Pumped Vertical-External-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser emitting at 1.54 mu m is designed to sustain the oscillation of two orthogonally polariz ...

We present and discuss Talbot mask-aligner lithography, relying on a continuous wave laser emitting at 193nm for the illumination. In this source, a diode laser at 772nm is amplified by a tapered amplifier in master-oscillator power-amplifier configuration ...

Here, we investigate a scheme to realize free-space isolators and highly non-reciprocal mirrors with weak modulation imparted by an acoustic wave. We propose a strategy to dramatically break time-reversal symmetry by exploiting resonant interactions betwee ...

This thesis presents results of a research on unidirectional isolator-free cavity lasers, exploiting thulium-doped fiber (TDF) as amplification medium and operating in \unit[2]{\mu m} wavelength range. For fibre ring resonator, an optical isolator should b ...

We investigate experimentally the impact of photon cavity lifetime variations on the static and dynamic performance of high-speed 1.3-mu m wavelength wafer-fused vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs). The photon lifetime is modified by decreasin ...

We report the first demonstration of a unidirectional, isolator-free 2-mmthulium-doped fiber (TDF) laser, relying on the properties of the theta cavity (ring resonator with S-shaped feedback). The core pumped theta cavity TDF laser provides sub-Watt output ...

Lateral loss causes optical energy to leave the laser cavity in the transverse, lateral, direction, and is sometimes neglected to simplify the numerical simulations. However, in contrast to outcoupling and absorption losses, we show that the lateral loss c ...

Optically pumped wafer fused 1310 nm VECSELs have the advantage of high output power and wavelength agility. Gain mirrors in these lasers are formed by direct bonding of InAlGaAs/InP active cavities to Al(Ga) As/GaAs DBRs. We present for the first time Wat ...

Digital chemical etching is used to trim the output mirror thickness of wafer-fused VCSELs emitting at a wavelength near 1.5 mu m. The fine control of the photon cavity lifetime thus achieved is employed to extract important device parameters and optimize ...

We present an efficient method to model the small-signal modulation response of a long-wavelength VCSEL chip using an equivalent electrical circuit. This circuit serves two distinct purposes. Based on T-Matrix formalism, it is used to remove the parasitics ...

Optical fiber materials with broad-band gain in the visible or in the telecommunication window are of great interest for optical communication or the biomedical domain in order to built integrated tunable lasers, amplifiers, ultra-short pulse lasers, or br ...
