With their exponentially rising computational power, digital platforms are heralding a new era of hybrid intelligence. There has recently been much enthusiasm and hype that the Metaverse has the potential to unlock hybrid intelligence. This is premised on ...

Language has shaped human evolution and led to the desire to endow machines with language abilities. Recent advancements in natural language processing enable us to achieve this breakthrough in human-machine interaction. However, introducing conversational ...

As the field of ethology advances, especially over the past two decades, the role of animal-robot interaction tools has increasingly become essential. This importance arises from the need for controlled, repetitive, repeatable, and long-duration experiment ...

A vehicle's steering is a particular system in that it is exposed to individual subjective reviews based on criteria that are hard to assess quantitatively. Haptic design of such systems is a prime concern that has been at the center of industrial developm ...

The ability to forecast human motion, called ``human trajectory forecasting", is a critical requirement for mobility applications such as autonomous driving and robot navigation. Humans plan their path taking into account what might happen in the future. S ...

Human trajectory forecasting in crowds presents the challenges of modelling social interactions and outputting collision-free multimodal distribution. Following the success of Social Generative Adversarial Networks (SGAN), recent works propose various GAN- ...

Energy piles are shallow geothermal systems integrated into structures already required for structural functions of civil works that provide both geothermal energy supply and structural support to the built environments. This research work is driven by the ...

A swarm is the coherent behavior that emerges ubiquitously fromsimple interaction rules between self-organized agents. Understand-ing swarms is of utmost importance in many disciplines and jobs, but hard to teach due to the elusive nature of the phenomenon, ...

Bipedal locomotion is a remarkable feature of humans. This skill is necessary for the activities of daily living. Unfortunately, many people only partially benefit from it or miss it entirely because of a disability. This may result in a slower gait, less ...

The design of energy pile is hampered by the complex interaction between the piles and the slab subjected to thermal loads. Although finite element analysis is used to account explicitly for the interactions, this method is mainly considered as a research ...

To revive the Montreux Jazz Festival's archival live-concert footage, three immersive installations were designed using three different principles of augmentation, physicality and interaction. The primary aim was to engage the user in a new relationship wi ...

The increasing amount of data collected in online learning environments provides unique opportunities to better understand the learning processes in different educational settings. Learning analytics research aims at understanding and optimizing learning a ...

Over the last decade, the study of group behavior for multimodal interaction technologies has increased. However, we believe that despite its potential benefits on society, there could be more activity in this area. The aim of this workshop is create a for ...

How can individual acts amount to coherent systems of interaction? In this paper, we attempt to answer this key question by suggesting that there is a place for cities in the way we coordinate seemingly chaotic decisions. We look into the elementary proces ...

This study presents an analysis of the displacement interaction among general configurations of energy piles bearing on stiff soil strata that are subjected to thermal loads. This work integrates recent analyses investigating the displacement interaction a ...

Prior to this study, no simplified yet rational methods were available for estimating the vertical displacements of energy pile groups subjected to thermal loads. Observing such a challenge, the goal of this study has been threefold: (i) to extend the inte ...

In this paper, we present an acoustic localization system for multiple devices. In contrast to systems which localize a device relative to one or several anchor points, we focus on the joint localization of several devices relative to each other. We presen ...

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) aim at offering an interaction modality for people with severe motor disabilities. Despite promising advances, BCIs are still confronted with multiple challenges in determining user's intentions reliably, mainly due to high ...

Apps supporting social networking in proximity are gaining momentum as they enable both augmenting face-to-face interaction with a digital channel (e.g. classroom interaction systems) and augmenting digital interaction by providing a local real life feelin ...

The broad availability of mobile computing devices has prompted the apparition of social media applications that support teaching and learning. However, so far, there is conflicting evidence as to whether the benefits such applications provide in terms of ...
