A novel communication network is being implemented on the machines composing the Système de Contrôle Distribué (SCD) that form the real-time architecture of the Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV), exploiting the capabilities of the Data Distribution Se ...

SPIDER is the full scale prototype for the ITER Heating Neutral Beam source, hosted at the Neutral Beam Test Facility in Padova, Italy. The behavior of the beam must be thoroughly investigated to bring the machine's performance in line with ITER's requirem ...

Self-consistent full-size turbulent-transport simulations of the divertor and scrape-off-layer (SOL) of existing tokamaks have recently become feasible. This enables the direct comparison of turbulence simulations against experimental measurements. In this ...

The pre-conceptual layout for an electron cyclotron system (ECS) in DEMO is described. The present DEMO ECS considers only equatorial ports for both plasma heating and neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) control. This differs from ITER, where four launchers in ...

Disruption mitigation remains a critical, unresolved challenge for ITER. To aid in addressing this challenge, a shattered pellet injection (SPI) system was installed on JET and experiments conducted at a range of thermal energy fractions and stored energie ...

The 1-dimensional reaction-diffusion-convection code TOMATOR-1D describes plasma production by RF waves inside a tokamak using the Braginskii continuity and heat balance equations. The model simulates self-consistent radial density and temperature profiles ...

A research activity in the Institute for Plasma Science and Technology of National Research Council (ISTP-CNR, Italy, former IFP-CNR) and in L.T. Calcoli (LTC, Italy) is aimed at the design and construction of calorimetric loads for absorption and measurem ...

The data of the H alpha high-resolution spectroscopy, collected on the multiple lines of sight, which cover the entire divertor space in poloidal cross-section, during the recent hydrogen-deuterium experiments in JET-ILW (ITER-like wall), are processed. A ...

Experimental observations in JET tokamak plasmas and gyrokinetic simulations point to an important role, for electron heat transport, of electron-scale instabilities and of their interaction with ion-scale instabilities. Since these effects are maximized f ...

Most feedback perimeter control approaches that are based on the Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD) and are tested in detailed network structures restrict inflow from the external boundary of the network. Although such a measure is beneficial for the ne ...

The term "blocky rock conditions" is generally associated with face instabilities in blocky/jointed rock masses. These events are generally promoted by unfavorable rock mass structural conditions, in terms of joint frequency and orientation, and acting str ...

The quay crane scheduling problem plays an important role in the paradigm of port container terminal management, due to the fact that it closely relates to vessel berthing time. In this paper, we focus on the study of a special strategy for the cluster-bas ...

Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) method was practiced, in the current investigation, to obtain fully dense materials with an excellent dispersion of MWCNTs (Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes) within the matrix. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy microgr ...

This research investigates the influence of alkali hydroxides on unrestrained volume changes. A detailed multi-method approach is used to characterize the progress of cement hydration, autogenous and drying volume changes (i.e., shrinkage), autogenous RH d ...

In this work we propose a variational reconstruction algorithm for enhancement and denoising of flow fields that is reminiscent of total-variation (TV) regularization used in image processing, but which also takes into account physical properties of flow s ...
