Diffractive optical elements (DOEs) which consist of microstructure surface relief permit the generation of the spatial distribution of light beams by using a single element. Due to their compact size, design flexibility, and mass productivity, they are us ...

Numerous process integration techniques were proved to be highly effective for identifying and estimating potential energy savings in the industry. However, they require high time and effort to collect and analyse process data. As a result, they do not con ...

This paper reports on experimental testing that was carried out on a prototype adaptive structure designed to counteract the effect of loading through controlled large shape changes. The prototype is 6.6 m truss equipped with 12 linear actuators which has ...

The European DEMOnstration Fusion Power Plant (EU-DEMO) is planned to be an intermediate step between ITER experimental reactor and a commercial fusion power plant, which should demonstrate feasibility of grid electricity production at a level of several h ...

Machine learning has provided a huge wave of innovation in multiple fields, including computer vision, medical diagnosis, life sciences, molecular design, and instrumental development. This perspective focuses on the implementation of machine learning in d ...

We report on the magnetism of charge-stripe ordered La2NiO4.11 +/- 0.01 by neutron scattering and mu SR. On going towards zero energy transfer there is an observed wave vector offset in the centring of the magnetic excitations and magnetic Bragg reflection ...

The Lateral Torsional Buckling (L.T.B.) design of beams in buildings has received considerable attention over the last decades, and relatively similar improved design rules are now implemented in major design standards. On the contrary, it may be shown tha ...

We present the fabrication and characterization of large arrays of inkjet-printed superparamagnetic polymer composite (SPMPC) hemispherical microstructures. SPMPCs are appealing for applications in microsystems and nanorobotics due to the added functionali ...

In this work, we present the technological constrains and limitations in the design of ultra-thin body Junctionless Vertical Slit Field Effect Transistor (JL VeSFET). A design space involving the intrinsic off-current, the sub-threshold swing, and the drai ...

We present a method for the design of 3D constructions from planar pieces that can be cut easily and cheaply with laser cutters and similar Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. By cutting tight slits in intersecting pieces, they can be slid into each ...
