Edge Localised Modes (ELMs) induced fast-ion losses have been characterised in the energy, E, and pitch, λ = v ∥ / v , space using a unique Fast Ion Loss Detector (FILD) on the tokamak à configuration variable. The FILD is equipped with a 128 Avalanche Pho ...

Efficiency is a key factor for high-power gyrotrons, particularly in future fusion power plants, where a large number of gyrotron units will be required for plasma heating. A single-stage depressed collector enhances efficiency from approximately 35% to 50 ...

Seven different high current conductors for fusion applications, made of High Temperature Superconducting stacked tapes, have been successfully tested in the Quench Experiment campaign supported by EUROfusion and carried out in SULTAN. The aim of this exte ...

The heat flux mitigation during the thermal quench (TQ) by the shattered pellet injection (SPI) is one of the major elements of disruption mitigation strategy for ITER. It's efficiency greatly depends on the SPI and the target plasma parameters, and is ult ...

Plasma turbulence plays a fundamental role in determining the performances of magnetic confinement fusion devices, such as tokamaks. Advances in computer science, combined with the development of efficient physical models, have significantly improved our u ...

Plasma-facing materials (PFMs) represent one of the most significant challenges for the design of future nuclear fusion reactors. Inside the reactor, the divertor will experience the harshest material environment: intense bombardment of neutrons and plasma ...

Simulations of plasma turbulence in a linear plasma device configuration are presented. These simulations are based on a simplified version of the gyrokinetic (GK) model proposed by Frei et al. [J. Plasma Phys. 86, 905860205 (2020)], where the full-F distr ...

Cis-genetic effects are key determinants of transcriptional divergence in discrete tissues and cell types. However, how cis- and trans-effects act across continuous trajectories of cellular differentiation in vivo is poorly understood. Here, we quantify al ...

Efficient and robust n-i-p perovskite solar cells necessitate superior organic hole-transport materials with both mechanical and electronic prowess. Deciphering the structure-property relationship of these materials is crucial for practical perovskite sola ...

We report a simple and effective method for producing lanthanide ion-doped lithium-fluoride-based nanocrystals (YLiF4). We utilized those nanoparticles for up-conversion in fabricated perovskite solar cells. The obtained results shows that the up-conversio ...

Nonradiative recombination in Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) solar cells has long been attributed to the antisite defects MCu (M = In, Ga), but the underlying mechanism is still elusive. Using rigorous first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that the antisites ...

This thesis reports on the study and use of low temperature processes for the deposition of indium gallium nitride (InGaN) thin films in order to alleviate some of the present drawbacks of its monolitic deposition on silicon for photovoltaic applications. ...

Near-surface wind is difficult to estimate using global numerical weather and climate models, because airflow is strongly modified by underlying topography, especially that of a country such as Switzerland. In this article, we use a statistical approach ba ...

The integration of passivating contacts based on a highly doped polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) layer on top of a thin silicon oxide (SiOx) layer has been identified as the next step to further increase the conversion efficiency of current mainstream cry ...

In recent years, the dramatic increase in power conversion efficiency (PCE) coupled with a decrease in the total cost of third-generation solar cells has led to a significant increase in the collaborative research efforts of academic and industrial researc ...

A ventilated air-space behind external claddings can potentially affect the thermal performance of the entire building structure. In particular, in the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) facades, ventilated cavities are typically present between the P ...

Today more than ever the world needs clean energy sources and thus a fast deployment and scaling up of the photovoltaic industry. In this context improving solar cell efficiency plays a major role. In order to achieve the maximum single junction efficiency ...

One of the key elements to improve mainstream crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cell performance is surface passivation, which is at the center of the ongoing transition from cells with direct silicon-metal contacts to full area passivating contacts. In the ...

Predicting the performance of solar cells though analytical models is important for the theory-guided optimization of these devices. Earlier models neglect the impact of the optical generation in the quasi-neutral regions of a perovskite solar cell. Here, ...

The migration of mobile ions has long been considered a source of performance degradation in devices based on halide perovskites, but details regarding the mechanisms and extent of this problem remain scarce. Here we report the finding that differences in ...
