Depth sensing is essential for intelligent computer vision applications, but it often suffers from low range precision and spatial resolution. To address this problem, we propose a novel framework that combines non-uniform sampling and reconstruction based ...

The implantation of materials into in vivo peripheral nerves triggers the production of scar tissue. A scar capsule progressively incorporates foreign bodies, which become insulated from the surrounding environment. This phenomenon is particularly detrimen ...

In the development of implantable bioelectronics, the establishment of efficient wireless RF links between implants and external nodes is crucial, providing substantial contributions to the advancement of medical diagnosis, therapies, and basic science. Im ...

This article proposes a novel shared intelligence system for brain-machine interface (BMI) teleoperated mobile robots where user's intention and robot's intelligence are concurrent elements equally participating in the decision process. We designed the sys ...

IMPORTANCE A growing number of neurologic treatments rely on neural implants capable of delivering electrical and chemical stimulation to targeted regions of the central nervous system for extended periods. OBJECTIVE To assess the potential of a novel clas ...

The steady growth of capacity demand in telecommunication networks has sparked the development of various photonic devices for ultrafast optical signal processing functions to meet the requirements of future flexible fiber networks in general and backbone ...

Microscopy imaging, including fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy, has a prominent role in life science and medical research. During the past two decades, biological imaging has undergone a revolution by way of the development of new microscopy ...

Objective. In this study we present the development and testing in a rat model of the self-opening neural interface (SELINE), a novel flexible peripheral neural interface. Approach. This polyimide-based electrode has a three-dimensional structure that prov ...

Reliably interfacing a nerve with an electrode array is one of the approaches to restore motor and sensory functions after an injury to the peripheral nerve. Accomplishing this with current technologies is challenging as the electrode-neuron interface ofte ...

Decades of technological developments have populated the field of neuroprosthetics with myriad replacement strategies, neuromodulation therapies, and rehabilitation procedures to improve the quality of life for individuals with neuromotor disorders. Despit ...

A 16-channel neural action potential recording IC suitable for large-scale integration with multi-electrode arrays (MEAs) is presented. A closed-loop gain of 60 dB in the action potential band is achieved by cascading differential gain-stages utilizing a n ...

Here we report on a validation study on brain–machine interfaces (BMIs) performed during the December 2007 ESA parabolic flight campaign. We investigated the feasibility of using BMIs for space applications by performing tests in microgravity. Brain signal ...

Classical digital signal processing (DSP) lore tells us the tale of a continuous-time primeval signal, of its brutal sampling, and of the magic sinc interpolation that, under the aegis of bandlimitedness, brings the original signal back to (continuous) lif ...

The goal of this thesis is to develop and design new feature representations that can improve the automatic speech recognition (ASR) performance in clean as well noisy conditions. One of the main shortcomings of the fixed scale (typically 20-30 ms long ana ...

Video signals are sequences of natural images, where images are often modeled as piecewise-smooth signals. Hence, video can be seen as a 3D piecewise-smooth signal made of piecewise-smooth regions that move through time. Based on the piecewise-smooth model ...
