Despite scientific and technological advances in the field of assistive technology (AT) for people with visual impairment (VI), technological designs are frequently based on a poor understanding of the physical and social context of use, resulting in devic ...

Many future fusion devices will rely heavily, if not solely, on electron cyclotron (EC) heating subsystems to provide bulk heating, instability control (neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) stabilization), and thermal instability control. Efficient use of the i ...

This paper presents the cooling concept for a medium voltage modular multilevel converter cell. To optimize power density, the metallic enclosure is used to dissipate the heat generated by semiconductor losses, while maintaining maximum temperatures below ...

This work proposes a method for optimal planning (sizing and siting) energy storage systems (ESSs) in power distribution grids while considering the option of curtailing photo-voltaic (PV) generation. More specifically, for a given PV generation capacity t ...

In this paper, we review some of the main methods to characterize on-state and off-state losses in wide-band-gap devices under switching conditions. In the off-state, we will discuss about losses related to charging and discharging the output capacitance i ...

Reciprocity guarantees that in most media, sound transmission is symmetric between two points of space when the location of the source and receiver are interchanged. This fundamental law can be broken in non-linear media, often at the cost of detrimental i ...

In spite of the dominance of ac technology for the vast majority of power transmission and distribution since the late 19th century, the past decades have seen an increase in use of dc electrical power. In particular, this has been the case both in high vo ...

Machine learning and data processing algorithms have been thriving in finding ways of processing and classifying information by exploiting the hidden trends of large datasets. Although these emerging computational methods have become successful in today's ...

Superconducting materials present unique properties, which make a potential technological platform based on superconductors extremely appealing for a wide set of applications, both classical and not. Among these classes of materials, high-kinetic inductanc ...

Nowadays, with the increased interest in applications dealing with high-power medium-voltage conversion, there is a strong need to master the design of medium-frequency transformers, which are one of the key components of modern DC transformers. The paper ...

There are various possibilities to realize coil winding designs for an inductive power transfer system. In order to achieve high power transfer efficiency and power density and explore trade-offs between the two, design optimization around the coil link is ...

The latest developments in dc transformer technology are enabling larger and more complex dc power distribution systems. However, the literature is scarce regarding the investigation and quantification of its impact on the dc grid. Therefore, this paper an ...

Over the last decades, implantable neural interfaces have been extensively explored and effectively deployed to address neurological and mental health disorders. The existing solutions present several limitations. Firstly, the physical size of the implanta ...

Modern power distribution systems experience a large-scale integration of Converter-Interfaced Distributed Energy Resources (CIDERs). As acknowledged by recent literature, the interaction of individual CIDER components and different CIDERs through the grid ...
