The control of the aggregation of biomedical nanoparticles (NP) in physiological conditions is crucial as clustering may change completely the way they interact with the biological environment. Here we show that Au nanoparticles, functionalized by an anion ...

This study presents an experimental work on dynamic pressures at the bottom of a lined plunge pool that receives overflow rectangular impinging jets and aims at improving the design criteria for pool slabs. The experiments were conducted in a fairly large ...

The applicability of two Reduced-Basis techniques to parametric laminar and turbulent incompressible fluid flow problems in nuclear engineering is studied in this work. The Reduced-Basis methods are used to generate Reduced-Order Models (ROMs) that can acc ...

Heat conduction in dielectric crystals originates from the dynamics of atomic vibrations, whose evolution is well described by the linearized Boltzmann transport equation for the phonon populations. Recently, it was shown that thermal conductivity can be r ...

The nanopore electrical approach is a breakthrough in single molecular level detection of particles as small as ions, and complex as biomolecules. This technique can be used for molecule analysis and characterization as well as for the understanding of con ...

This paper deals with fast simulations of the hemodynamics in large arteries by considering a reduced model of the associated fluid-structure interaction problem, which in turn allows an additional reduction in terms of the numerical discretisation. The re ...

Human tuberculosis (TB) is a frequently fatal lung disease mostly caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb), a slow-growing intracellular pathogen. M. tb utilizes the ESX-1 secretion system, classified as type VII, to export the virulence factors needed ...

Aluminium is a metal extracted from bauxite ore using electrolysis process in cells of big size. A huge electric current goes in the cell through an electrolytic bath and aluminium liquid. These currents generate strong magnetic forces that allow the bath ...

The field of coarse-grained simulations of biopolymers and membranes has grown rapidly in recent years. Industrial groups manufacture and use polymers in fields as diverse as chemicals processing and personal care products, while academic researchers are i ...

Even though flow in natural rivers and channels is generally unsteady, only a few studies on turbulent structures in unsteady open-channel flows have been carried out. In hydraulic engineering problems, unsteady flow is often approximated with concepts of ...

This contribution summarizes first some of our efforts in imaging G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) functional inserted into planar tethered lipid bilayer membranes (tBLMs) as a novel platform for biophysical studies. The authors introduced recently a nove ...

This thesis explores transport phenomena in nanochannels on a chip. Fundamental nanofluidic ionic studies form the basis for novel separation and preconcentration applications for proteomic purposes. The measurements were performed with 50-nm-high 1D nanoc ...
