We demonstrate the use of both pixelated differential phase contrast (DPC) scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and off-axis electron holography (EH) for the measurement of electric fields and assess the advantages and limitations of each techn ...

Advancing quantum technologies depends on the precise control of individual quantum systems, the so-called qubits, and the exploitation of their quantum properties. Nowadays, expanding the number of qubits to be entangled is at the core of the developments ...

The optical domain presents potential avenues for enhancing both computing and communication due to its inherent properties of bandwidth, parallelism, and energy efficiency. This research focuses on harnessing 3-Dimensional (3D) diffractive optics for nove ...

Structure determination of materials is key to understanding their physical properties. While single-crystal X-ray diffraction is the gold standard for structures displaying long-range order, many materials of interest are polycrystalline and/or disordered ...

Me3+8Ge, being a Weyl semimetal, shows a large anomalous Hall effect (AHE), which decreases slowly with an increase in 8 from 0.1 to 0.4. However, AHE in this compound remains significantly large in the whole range of 8 because of the robust nature of the ...

Although W. L. Bragg's law can be easily derived for beginners in the field of crystallography, its interpretation however seems to cause some difficulties which lies essentially in the relation between the concept of lattice planes and the unit cell const ...

The material and exact shape of a nanostructure determine its optical response, which is especially strong for plasmonic metals. Unfortunately, only a few plasmonic metals are available, which limits the spectral range where these strong optical effects ca ...

The present paper is concerned with the mechanically extremely sensitive reflection switching concept of a free-space wave impinging on an array of dielectric or semiconductor pillars. Splitting the pillars of a 2D periodic array in its resonant reflection ...

Due to a significant influence of strontium (Sr) on bone regeneration, Sr substituted beta-tricalcium phosphate (Sr-TCP) cement is prepared and investigated by short- and long-term time-resolved techniques. For short-term investigations, energy-dispersive ...

In this article, we propose a novel approach for the localization of electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources based on the concept of compressive sensing and metalenses. We show that using the spatial and frequency dispersion offered by the metalens, we ...

YMgNi4-based alloys exhibit reversible hydrogen absorption and desorption reactions at near room temperature. Here, we report that Co-substituted YMgNi4-based alloys exhibited higher hydrogen contents and lower hydrogen absorption and desorption reaction p ...

In comparison with Ru-II-arene compounds, the medicinal potential of homologous Ru-II-tpm compounds [tpm = tris(pyrazolyl)methane] is underexplored. Pyridine, 4-pyridinemethanol and four functionalized pyridines, synthesized from the esterification of 4-py ...

Light coupling in waveguides has been extensively investigated in a variety of contexts, from photonic integrated circuits to biosensing and near-eye displays for augmented reality. Here, narrowband diffraction is reported using a Fano interference effect ...

Structured light generation having broad applications in different optical fields, is the topic of this thesis. Our structured light generation strategy is based on applying periodic microoptical elements at the refraction-diffraction limit, under a focuse ...

Diffractive optical elements are ultra-thin optical components required for a variety of applications because of their high design flexibility. We introduce a gradient-based optimization method based on a step-transition perturbation approach which is an e ...

Diffractive optical elements (DOEs) which consist of microstructure surface relief permit the generation of the spatial distribution of light beams by using a single element. Due to their compact size, design flexibility, and mass productivity, they are us ...

Polarization of light has been widely used as a contrast mechanism in two-dimensional (2D) microscopy and also in some three-dimensional (3D) imaging modalities. In this paper, we report the 3D tomographic reconstruction of the refractive index (RI) tensor ...

A Bidirectional Scattering Distribution Function (BSDF) describes how light from each incident direction is scattered (reflected and transmitted) by a simple or composite surface, such as a window shade. Compact, tabular BSDFs may be derived via interpolat ...

In this Letter, we present the photonic nanojet as a phenomenon in a structured light generator system that is implemented to modify the source focal spot size and emission angle. The optical system comprises a microlens array that is illuminated by a focu ...

The microstructural evolution of the two austenitic alloys Fe-20Mn-3Al-0.7C wt pct and Fe-20Mn-6Al-0.7C wt pct when different thermal and thermomechanical treatments are performed has been studied. To this end, a generic industrial die of 100 ton capacity ...
