This paper presents a solution to overcome the inherently limited bandwidth of substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antennas. It is analytically shown that by decreasing the permittivity of a dielectric loaded slot antenna, the resulting bandwidth inc ...

We demonstrate a hybrid integrated frequency-agile laser based on an InP gain chip and an extended electro-optic Bragg waveguide reflector manufactured with a wafer-scale lithium niobate-on-insulator process featuring 10 GHz tuning range with high optical ...

In an era where portable electronic devices are indispensable for a wide range of activities, the need for displays that provide both long-lasting battery life and excellent visibility in different lighting conditions is increasingly important. Emissive di ...

Solution-processed lead-free halide perovskite gas sensors possess low gas detection limits, offering promising alternatives to traditional metal oxide chemiresistors. However, halide perovskite chemiresistors often suffer from poor selectivity and durabil ...

Controlling audible sound requires inherently broadband and subwavelength acoustic solutions, which are to date, crucially missing. This includes current noise absorption methods, such as porous materials or acoustic resonators, which are typically ineffic ...

Recently, there has been growing interest in the use of metamaterial (MTM)-based lenses, also known as metalenses, as innovative antenna technology. Increasingly widespread applications of metalenses in modern microwave communication and sensing systems ha ...

Although graphene has met many of its initially predicted optoelectronic, thermal, and mechanical properties, photodetectors with large spectral bandwidths and extremely high frequency responses remain outstanding. In this work, we demonstrate a >500 gigah ...

Graphdiyne (GDY) with a direct band gap, excellent carrier mobility and uniform pores, is regarded as a promising photocatalytic material for solar energy conversion, while the research on GDY in photocatalysis is a less developed field. Herein, the distin ...

Tunable metamaterials functionalities change in response to external stimuli. Mechanical deformation is known to be an efficient approach to tune the electromagnetic response of a deformable metamaterial. However, in the case of large mechanical deformatio ...

The rapid progress in high capacity communication systems is reaching extremely high data rates of 100 Gb s−1, which demands electronic switches with cut-off frequencies well above 1 THz. The excellent electron transport properties of III-V heterojunctions ...

Reconfigurable metalenses are compact optical components composed by arrays of meta-atoms that offer unique opportunities for advanced optical systems, from microscopy to augmented reality platforms. Although poorly explored in the context of reconfigurabl ...

The interior transmission eigenvalue problem is a system of partial differential equations equipped with Cauchy data on the boundary: the transmission conditions. This problem appears in the inverse scattering theory for inhomogeneous media when, for some ...

Invariance under time translation (or stationarity) is probably one of the most important assumptions made when investigating electromagnetic phenomena. Breaking this assumption is expected to open up novel possibilities and result in exceeding conventiona ...

In this thesis, we mainly utilize silver to construct the meta-atoms. Although suffering from easily oxidized, its excellent lossless property throughout the visible range makes it suitable for study. When preserved properly, silver-made metasurfaces can s ...

Long and flexible arrays of nanowires find impactful applications in sensing, photonics, and energy harvesting. Conventional manufacturing relies largely on lithographic methods limited in wafer size, rigidity, and machine write time. Here, we report a sca ...

This paper demonstrates the capability of locally resonant metamaterials (LRMs) for creating compact metallic waveguide E- and H-bends, which are simultaneously working as bandpass filters. For creating these bent meta-filters, we use composite pin-pipe wa ...

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are atomically thin crystals with exceptional mechanical, electrical and optical properties. Their unique characteristics originating from quantum confinement in the vertical dimension have attracted a strong interest for sci ...

Mechanical metamaterials are artificial composites that exhibit a wide range of advanced functionalities such as negative Poisson's ratio, shape shifting, topological protection, multistability, extreme strength-to-density ratio, and enhanced energy dissip ...

Novel two-dimensional metamaterials, known as metasurfaces, have emerged as a breakthrough platform for controlling electromagnetic wave properties at the nanoscale. These metasurfaces consist of subwavelength nanoantennas or so-called meta-atoms, which ca ...

Macroscale analogues(1-3) of microscopic spin systems offer direct insights into fundamental physical principles, thereby advancing our understanding of synchronization phenomena(4) and informing the design of novel classes of chiral metamaterials(5-7). He ...
