Cyclic Queuing and Forwarding (CQF) is a mechanism defined by IEEE TSN for providing low jitter in a deterministic network. CQF uses a common time cycle and two buffers per node output port: during one cycle incoming packets are stored in one buffer while ...

A combination of two numerical techniques of computational electromagnetics, namely, method of moments and vector spherical wave expansion, is used to show performance limitations on the radiation efficiency of implantable antennas and to efficiently resol ...

Currently, the fundamental tenets of systems engineering are supported by a model-based approach to minimize risks and avoid design changes in late development stages. The models are used to formalize, analyze, design, optimize, and verify system developme ...

Strengthening of flat slab-column connections to resist imposed lateral drifts is often required for older reinforced concrete structures in which the flat slabs were typically designed to resist gravity load only or have been designed for less stringent r ...

We report the first experimental demonstration and performance characterization of a fully integrated negative capacitance (NC) WSe2/SnSe2 p-type Tunnel FETs (TFETs), validating the use of NC as a technology booster to achieve a significantly improved sub- ...

This paper presents an in-depth DC characterization of a 22 nm FDSOI CMOS technology down to deep cryogenic temperature, i.e., 2.95 K. The impact of the back-gate voltage (V-back) on device performance, i.e., threshold voltage (V-T) and carrier transport, ...

We analyse the haemodynamics of the left atrium, highlighting differences between healthy individuals and patients affected by atrial fibrillation. The computational study is based on patient-specific geometries of the left atria to simulate blood flow dyn ...

Closed-loop neural interfaces with on-chip machine learning can detect and suppress disease symptoms in neurological disorders or restore lost functions in paralyzed patients. While high-density neural recording can provide rich neural activity information ...

Oxidative treatment of seawater in coastal and shipboard installations is applied to control biofouling and/or minimize the input of noxious or invasive species into the marine environment. This treatment allows a safe and efficient operation of industrial ...

Generalized empirical currents represent a vast class of thermodynamic observables of mesoscopic systems. Their fluctuations satisfy the thermodynamic uncertainty relations (TURs), as they can be bounded by the average entropy production. Here, we derive a ...

With the current exponential growth of video-based social networks, video retrieval using natural language is receiving ever-increasing attention. Most existing approaches tackle this task by extracting individual frame-level spatial features to represent ...

Continuous and reliable cardiac function monitoring could improve medication adherence in patients at risk of heart failure. This work presents an innovative implantable Fiber Bragg Grating-based soft sensor designed to sense mechanical cardiac activity. T ...

In this work we propose and experimentally validate a relaxation spiking oscillator architecture with ultra-high tuning range (higher than 400%, from 5KHz to more than 25kHz when the control voltage is varied from 2.5 to 5V) that exploits the reversible me ...

Solution processing is an attractive alternative to standard vacuum fabrication techniques for the large-area manufacturing of metal oxide (MOx)-based electron devices. Here, we report on thin-film transistors (TFTs) based on a solution-processed indium zi ...

In Europe, computation of displacement demand for seismic assessment of existing buildings is essentially based on a simplified formulation of the N2 method as prescribed by Eurocode 8 (EC8). However, a lack of accuracy of the N2 method in certain conditio ...

Pool boiling has a high heat removal capability and is considered as one of the most effective cooling methods due to utilization of latent heat of vaporization. Surface wettability plays a key role in boiling heat transfer since it controls the contact li ...

Snow slab avalanches start with a failure in a weak snow layer buried below a cohesive snow slab. After failure, the very porous character of the weak layer leads to its volumetric collapse and thus closing of crack faces due to the weight of the overlayin ...

This paper presents a modeling approach to simulate the impact of total ionizing dose (TID) degradation on low-power analog and mixed-signal circuits. The modeling approach has been performed on 180-nm n-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transist ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging is a non-invasive tomographic imaging modality that has provided insights into system-level brain function. New analysis methods are emerging to study the dynamic behavior of brain activity. The innovation-driven co-ac ...

Gain-cell embedded DRAM (GC-eDRAM) is an attractive alternative to conventional SRAM due to its high-density, low-leakage, and inherent two-ported functionality. However, its dynamic storage mechanism requires power-hungry refresh cycles to maintain data. ...
