Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) under ultrahigh vacuum and cryogenic conditions enables exploration of the relations between the adsorption geometry, electronic state, and vibrational fingerprints of individual molecules. TERS capability of reflecti ...

Free-electron lasers and high-harmonic-generation table-top systems are new sources of extreme-ultraviolet to hard X-ray photons, providing ultrashort pulses that are intense, coherent and tunable. They are enabling a broad range of nonlinear optical and s ...

This study investigates chloride binding in blended cement pastes exposed to 0.5 M NaCl solutions (with and without pH adjustment) using X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy image analysis (edxia). The aim is to better understand the ...

Particulate matter (PM) pollution causes adverse health effects and millions of deaths each year. PM or aerosol, is difficult to characterize because of its wide range of particle sizes, constituents (various organic and inorganic compounds), concentration ...

Non-covalent interactions are ubiquitous in nature. The diversity and functionality of these interactions are employed by nature as a universal tool for building the molecular mechanism of life. Although weak, these interactions play a key role in both for ...

The urgency of climate change demands the simultaneous removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and the transition to renewable energy sources. This aim is realizable through electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2RR), which is a promising ro ...

The last decades have been punctuated by the development of revolutionary analytical technologies that have enabled the analysis of biomolecular structures and unraveled the roles they play in biological systems. However, certain classes of biomolecules re ...

Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is an atomic-level method to determine the chemical structure, 3D structure and dynamics of solids and semi-solids. This Primer summarizes the basic principles of NMR spectroscopy as applied to the ...

One-dimensional microrods (4-5 mm) of PbI2 and CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI(3)) with unique structural and morphological properties have been grown at room temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of both types of micro-rods exhibit a hexagonal system (P3m1(164) ...

Lignocellulosic biomass is a sustainable source of renewable carbon, and it is the most abundant form of terrestrial biomass. The three main constituents of lignocellulosic biomass are cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The monomers from these biopolyme ...

The reaction of the Rh-7(CO)(16) cluster anion with Ge2+ salts, in different stoichiometric ratios and under different atmospheres, leads to the formation of new heterometallic Rh-Ge clusters, representing the first known examples of Rh carbonyl comp ...

Heterobimetallic Ru-Fe complexes of the general formula [(eta(6)-p-cymene) RuCl2(Ph(2)PfcCONHCH(2)CH(2-)COY-kappa P)], where Y = Me, NH2, NHEt, NHPh, and NMe2, and fc = ferrocene-1,1'-diyl, were synthesized from p-cymene ruthenium dichloride dimer and phos ...

The aim of this work was to investigate the effects of relative humidity on the formation of titania layers on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes under regulated conditions in a sealed system. Reactive precursor compounds such as titanium (IV) ox ...
