The progressive decline of muscle mass and function called sarcopenia is a multi-factorial process associated to frailty, disability, and low quality of life in the elderly. The co-factor nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) becomes a limiting factor i ...

There is currently no approved treatment for Netherton syndrome, which is a severe, genetic skin disease characterized by chronic inflammation and excessive peeling of the skin. Even though the molecular disease mechanism has been assigned to the unopposed ...

Monitoring metabolites at the point of care could improve the diagnosis and management of numerous diseases. Yet for most metabolites, such assays are not available. We introduce semisynthetic, light-emitting sensor proteins for use in paper-based metaboli ...

The cellular level of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)), through its different functions, affects cellular metabolism and signalling(1-3). A decrease in the NAD(+) content has been associated with various pathologies and physiological aging(4,5), ...

In this work, we present a comparison of a shallow and a deep learning architecture for the automated segmentation of white matter lesions in MR images of multiple sclerosis patients. In particular, we train and test both methods on early stage disease pat ...

Gangliosides are cell membrane components, most abundantly in the central nervous system (CNS) where they exert among others neuro-protective and -restorative functions. Clinical development of ganglioside replacement therapy for several neurodegenerative ...

Supplementation with the NAD(+) precursor nicotinamide riboside (NR) ameliorates and prevents a broad array of metabolic and aging disorders in mice. However, little is known about the physiological role of endogenous NR metabolism. We have previously show ...

Objective: Augmenting nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) availability may protect skeletal muscle from age-related metabolic decline. Dietary supplementation of NAD(+) precursors nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide riboside (NR) appe ...

Discovered in the beginning of the 20(th) century, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) has evolved from a simple oxidoreductase cofactor to being an essential cosubstrate for a wide range of regulatory proteins that include the sirtuin family of NAD ...

Background Physical frailty and loss of mobility in elderly individuals lead to reduced independence, quality of life, and increased mortality. Vitamin B12 deficiency has been linked to several age-related chronic diseases, including in the musculo-skeleta ...

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP) are crucial redox cofactors regulating energy metabolism, reductive biosynthesis and the antioxidant defense system. Besides their role as redox cofactors, NAD(P ...

Discovered in the beginning of the 20th century, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) has evolved from a simple oxidoreductase cofactor to being an essential cosubstrate for a wide range of regulatory proteins that include most notoriously the sirtuin ...

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) is a co-substrate for several enzymes, including the sirtuin family of NAD(+)-dependent protein deacylases. Beneficial effects of increased NAD(+) levels and sirtuin activation on mitochondrial homeostasis, organi ...

NAD+ has emerged as a central metabolic node and an important co-substrate for the activity of various enzymes, including the protein deacetylase SIRT1. Different strategies to increase NAD+ bioavailability have been shown to boost SIRT1 activity, which re ...
