Spiking neural networks (SNNs) are mimicking computationally powerful biologically inspired models in which neurons communicate through sequences of spikes, regarded here as sparse binary sequences of zeros and ones. In neuroscience it is conjectured that ...

The transmission overload after a disturbance poses significant security risk to the power system. Once it happens, an efficient remedial action must be taken to relieve the line overloads as quickly as possible. The line overload mitigation problem become ...

A major concern associated to the massive connection of distributed energy resources is the increasing share of power electronic interfaces resulting in the global inertia reduction of power systems. The recent literature advocated the use of voltage sourc ...

Nowadays, transmission system operators require higher degree of observability in real-time to gain situational awareness and improve the decision-making process to guarantee a safe and reliable operation. Digitalization of energy systems allows utilities ...

Neural-network quantum states (NQS) have been shown to be a suitable variational ansatz to simulate out-of-equilibrium dynamics in two-dimensional systems using timedependent variational Monte Carlo (t-VMC). In particular, stable and accurate time propagat ...

This paper introduces a new method for solving the distributed AC power flow (PF) problem by further exploiting the problem formulation. We propose a new variant of the ALADIN algorithm devised specifically for this type of problem. This new variant is cha ...

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have proven to be a robust power source for efficiently converting environmental mechanical energy into electricity. Triboelectric technology experienced substantial growth in the past few years, especially in the field ...

When it comes to residential buildings, there are several stochastic parameters, such as renewable energy production, outdoor air conditions, and occupants’ behavior, that are hard to model and predict accurately, with some being unique in each specific bu ...

To limit global warming, the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables is one of the main challenges of this century. This transition will help decrease our CO2 emissions, create jobs, contribute to a broader revenues distribution, improve energy s ...

In recent years, power systems have evolved in physical and cyber-physical layers. In the physical layer, the changes are motivated by environmental concerns resulting in the integration of new types of generation/demand/storage into the grid. These integr ...

Environmental concerns are leading to a fast transition in electric power systems towards replacing fossil fuel and nuclear generation with renewable generation. This transition has two significant implications for electric power systems: 1-The capacity o ...

Tomorrow's cities are already largely built, as much of the existing building stock – with a low level of energy performance – will still be standing in 2050. Urban renewal processes therefore play an essential role towards the sustainable transition of Eu ...

Most European countries are committed to an energy transition which consists in the substitution of conventional CO2 emitting energy sources by new renewable energy sources (RES), in particular wind and solar power. As opposed to conventional energy source ...

Two complementary measurement systems – built upon an autonomous floating craft and a tethered balloon – for lake research and monitoring are presented. The autonomous vehicle was assembled on a catamaran for stability, and is capable of handling a variety ...

We are reporting energy scavenging from fluid flows inside tubular structures using triboelectric effects. Two separate designs of triboelectric generators are proposed. A tubular design that uses liquid-solid interaction mechanism for water, and freestand ...

This study evaluates and compares several machine learning methods on the effects of different parameters in the hydrothermal carbonisation (HTC) process of macroalgae Sargassum horneri. Reaction temperature, residence time, biomass particle size, the amou ...

Power systems with large shares of converter-interfaced renewables may be characterised by low grid inertia due to the lack of frequency containment provided by synchronous generators. Battery energy storage systems (BESSs), which can adjust their power ou ...

The operators of power distribution systems strive to lower their operational costs and improve the quality of the power service provided to their customers. Furthermore, they are faced with the challenge of accommodating large numbers of Distributed Energ ...
